The Position:
We are seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher for our Northpoint School. This position is responsible for the implementation of the special educational and behavioral program in the classroom and functions as a classroom supervisor on a core team consisting of the classroom aides and interns.
About Northpoint School:
Northpoint is a non-public school that serves High School students, age 14-22, whose significant emotional and/or behavioral problems significantly impact their ability to be successful in the regular public-school setting. Northpoint combines academic instruction and a broad spectrum of mental health specialized services, including: individual, group, and family therapy, psychiatric services, DIS counseling, extracurricular activities, and transition planning. Northpoint integrates a rewards-based behavior modification system. Emphasis is placed on clear expectations, successful experiences, positive rewards, and immediate feedback in an effort to help students realize their emotional, social, and academic potential.

What You’ll Do
- Develop an integrated plan for the education of each child by collaborating with classroom teachers, parents, and therapeutic support team.
- Develop and teaches lessons that provide engaging learning opportunities for small groups and individual students while meeting required specifications of IEP’s.
- Write IEP’s, report cards and progress reports.
- Hours: Full-time (40 hours). Exempt. Works on the Northpoint School calendar schedule (see below)
- Starting Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 (commensurate on experience)
School Closures:
- This position follows the Northpoint School calendar which includes:
- Summer breaks
- First break: 2 weeks
- Second break: 2.5 weeks
- Thanksgiving break: 1 week
- Winter break: 3 weeks
- Spring break: 1 week
- 10 Additional Federal Holidays (in addition to above breaks)
- *All school closures are paid time off*
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor with all students, parents, interdisciplinary treatment team, and outside agencies.
- An understanding of various special education needs and services.
- General knowledge of high school curriculum and an ability to adapt, modify and accommodate for students with a variety of special needs.
- A foundation of understanding policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education and the IEP process.
- Will learn to navigate the Welligent system for IEP’s and other required districts applications.
- Must be flexible, organized, and be able to adjust to all program changes.
- Utilize a collaborative approach and share expertise with others.
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree with valid and clear special education or special instruction certification.
- Special Education or Education Specialist Instruction certification REQUIRED. Mild/Moderate credential preferred.
- Two or more years of special education teaching experience preferred.
- Must have valid California Driver's License and clean driving record, acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.
