The Position:

We are seeking full-time Mental Health Specialists for our Palmdale location to provide skill based behavioral interventions to clients within the Child and Family Guidance Center agency in an effort to support goal achievement. The Mental Health Specialist will implement the client’s individual treatment and behavioral plans, intervene therapeutically when a client is experiencing behavioral and emotional difficulties, and complete regular documentation of these services.

What You’ll Do:

  • Responsible for providing skill building mental health services, through implementing the client’s individual treatment plan.
  • Provides individual and group rehab skill building services, independently or in conjunction with current mental health service provider.
  • Closely collaborates with therapist to support high risk clients (danger to self/others).
  • Provides clients with skill building intervention including but not limited to coping skills, problem-solving strategies, emotional regulation skills, anger management skills, social skills, conflict resolution to reduce target behaviors.
  • Participates in specific training to develop areas of expertise in different models of treatment including but not limited to IBIT, co-occurring, DBT.
  • Provides clients and families with individual/group support in the office, home, school and/or community settings based on client need.
  • Explores treatment progress and potential risk factors.
  • Collaborates with caregivers, teachers, treatment team members and other significant support persons in the client’s life to develop skills necessary to support client in goal achievement, through psycho-education, modeling, coaching and other behavioral therapeutic strategies.
  • Hours: Monday through Friday with several evenings per week
  • Full-time: 40-hours per week, based on the needs of clients/cases. Must be willing to work non-traditional work hours with flexible schedule, early mornings, afternoons, and/or late evenings
  • This position is fully onsite for the first four months with potential hybrid work schedule after four months of successful employment.
  • Salary: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour (additional years of successful related experience will be considered)

 

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
  • Experience with children and families in a mental health or related setting (i.e. community MH agencies, schools, group homes, etc.) providing behavior or skill building services, individually and/or in group.
  • Ability to work in a warm and supportive manner with children who have mild to severe behavioral, social emotional difficulties.
  • Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team, form and maintain professional relationships, and accept and utilize supervision from clinical staff.
  • Mature, responsible, self-starting, organized person with excellent time management skills.
  • Possess effective and clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and be insurable under the center's insurance carrier. 
  • Bachelor's degree required.
