CFP® certification is held by nearly 100,000 people in the U.S. CFP Board Center for Financial Planning (501(c)(3)) addresses diversity and workforce development challenges and conducts and publishes research that adds to the financial planning profession’s body of knowledge.

The OPPORTUNITY

The Managing Director of Corporate Growth develops and leads CFP Board’s strategies for building relationships with targeted financial services firms, generating new business. This includes driving growth of new CFP ® certificants and generating revenue from targeted firms to support CFP Board’s programs, events and initiatives. This individual will manage key firm relationships directly and lead a team that oversees other accounts. The approach focuses on cultivating long-term, mutually valuable relationships within the financial services ecosystem. The Managing Director of Corporate Growth oversees a team of 4 professionals and works closely with the leaders of program development, workforce, finance, fundraising, diversity, marketing and communications, and research, implementing an effective and collaborative account management system.

This position works on programs which are part of the 501 (c)(6).

This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and works a hybrid schedule which could be changed at any time.

The Candidate Essential Responsibilities

Relationship Management/Revenue Generation

  • Cultivates and sustains robust relationships with key firms, acting as their primary contact for all inquiries, concerns and needs for his/her own accounts and ensuring members of his/her team do the same for their accounts.
  • Understands firm business objectives, challenges and market trends and develops tailored strategic counsel and solutions that leverage CFP Board data, programs and initiatives to mutual benefit.
  • Identifies opportunities for upselling and cross-selling, working in close collaboration with the Director of Development, program development, workforce, finance and marketing and communications teams.
  • Develops and implements results driven strategies for engaging key financial services firms to promote and support CFP ® certification for their employees in furtherance of CFP Board’s short and long-term goals.
  • In partnership with the Director of Development, determines and advances firm development/sponsorship opportunities to achieve development revenue goals for organization.
  • Conducts regular business reviews with key firms to identify opportunities for growth, evaluate their satisfaction and uncover opportunities for improvement.

Team Leadership/Management

  • Maintains oversight of entire portfolio of firm accounts, leading and coaching team to drive and achieve business growth goals and embrace best practices in effective account management.
  • Recruits, develops and retains a high-performing team of client-centric and collaborative account leaders.
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team that sets the organization’s strategic direction.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation, successful delivery of services and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Develops and oversees systems and infrastructure to support firm engagement objectives (both on encouraging CFP ® certification and fundraising) and reporting.
  • Tracks and reports on key account metrics, such as certificant growth, firm engagement and revenue opportunities and client satisfaction to senior management.
  • Manages the department’s budgets, including developing financial proposals and budget reports and monitoring expenses and accounts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Industry Engagement and Expertise

  • Knowledgeable and current in financial planning, business models, market dynamics and trends, key influencers and anticipated impact of contemplated standards’ change to proactively identify potential risks and opportunities with financial services firms. Serves as the subject matter expert to executive staff on these matters.
  • Attends industry events and conferences to build and strengthen relationships with key financial services firms, generate new business leads and stay abreast of trends and challenges.
  • Communicates important updates, changes and CFP Board initiatives to firms in a timely manner, soliciting feedback when appropriate.
  • Oversees content pertaining to financial services firms at CFP Board conferences and events and ensures growing participation by key firms in the industry.
  • Identifies, advances and supports opportunities for engagement of CEO with key firm leadership.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; graduate degree preferred
  • CFP® certification strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in account management with a focus on strategic relationship building and revenue growth, preferably in a financial services B2B environment
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of the financial planning profession, trends, and market dynamics
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Demonstrated ability to earn and maintain the trust of senior-level executives at both large and small financial services firms and strong client focus
  • Strong executive presence
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively present, negotiate, influence outcomes, drive results and overcome obstacles
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and address client needs effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with cross-functional departments
  • Proven track record in account management, with a focus on strategic relationships building and revenue growth
  • Demonstrated political acumen and emotional intelligence and ability to synthesize input and data from a variety of sources to develop strategy and make sound business decisions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software
  • Ability to travel for client meetings and industry events as required (approximately 25%)

Compensation

Compensation for this role will reflect a range of factors, including relevant experience, demonstrated expertise, and other considerations. CFP Board in an Equal Opportunity Employer. The applicable starting annual base salary is anticipated to be in the range of $240,000 to $260,000. In addition to base salary, total compensation includes incentive compensation for which employees are eligible based on completion of individual goals. Additionally, CFP Board offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees’ well-being and growth.
