Washington Analysis' Policy Analysts provide independent and objective analysis and forecasting to the global investment community. Our team delivers actionable and timely research to our clients regarding the investment implications of legislative, regulatory, political, and legal developments.
The analyst will research and forecast for the institutional investment community policy and legal issues that impact publicly traded and privately held firms with a focus on mergers and acquisition and other antitrust and competition policy and legal matters. The analyst will also respond to client inquiries on additional issues and special situations that are not covered by a sector-specific analyst. The analyst will be responsible for producing written research and analysis, hosting topic-specific conference calls and events, engaging directly with clients, and coordinating coverage with sector-specific analysts.
This is not an entry-level position. Compensation and title (Vice President, Senior Vice President) negotiable based on experience. This role offers hybrid/remote flexibility, but strong preference for candidates in the Washington, DC area.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and analyze mergers and acquisitions, policy themes, and other antitrust/competition developments emanating from federal and state regulators (e.g., FTC, DOJ, CFIUS, state AGs, etc.), lawmakers, and the courts that present actionable investment opportunities
- Coordinate coverage of mergers and acquisitions with sector-specific analysts, as appropriate
- Support broader special situations coverage by identifying and providing forward-looking analysis of additional unique policy and legal risks and opportunities
- Connect policy risks and opportunities to publicly traded companies
- Publish timely and concise research reports on various topics within coverage
- Host conference calls and events with primary-source subject-matter experts on key topics
- Speak and travel to meet with institutional investors one-on-one and in group settings
- Conduct and coordinate due diligence research projects on tight deadlines
- Bachelor's degree plus at least 6 years of relevant work experience
- Experience analyzing, writing, and presenting on public policy and/or legal developments
- Strong ability to communicate complex information effectively in writing and in person
- Prior relevant experience, either in investment research, government, or private sector role (i.e., law firm, lobbying firm, advocacy group, think tank, advisory firm)
- At least one of the following credentials a plus, though not required: JD, MBA, or CFA (or equivalent)
