What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at CG Schmidt?
Analyze and interpret project information in the assembly of budgets, bids, and proposals.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepares estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope work.
- Maintains trust with internal clients, vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Maintain skills for software tools and technology utilized in position and within department.
- Assist with cost control set up and develop a cost control log.
- Create comparison reports.
- Assist with making phone calls, securing bids, and run copies of proposals and documents as needed.
- Requests quotations, organizes, reviews, and logs quotes received.
- Maintains files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including accurate and current information on prices from suppliers.
- Attend design meetings, take notes, and report back to the team.
- Assist in developing detailed scope clarification sheets to help internal and external clients understand the estimate in full detail.
- Develops preliminary project schedules to aid in the estimating process.
- Follows the preconstruction process in place every time.
- Competency in the take-off and estimating tools that are used.
- CGS Ambassador, by engaging in CGS committees, events, etc.
- Communicate and reinforce the Company vision, values, and goals.
- Support other department personnel as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Administration, Engineering, or related field.
- Advanced math, computer, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques, and cost controls.
- Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
- Ability to conceptualize the project schedule from start to finish, including sequence/phasing of work.
- Strong team player and communicator.
- Construction field experience a plus but not required.
