Position Objective
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for on-site coordination of all trades and employees for construction of the project. This highly skilled position manages day-to-day construction operations, developing and executing logical plans that allow for the most efficient assembly of building components, resulting in projects completed on time, within budget, and with high quality standards.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Operations Management
- Supervise and coordinate daily jobsite activities and construction operations
- Manage and schedule subcontractors, material deliveries, and ensure quality workmanship
- Implement project schedules and ensure adherence to timelines
- Maintain quality control throughout all phases of construction
- Manage all LEAN initiatives for project (Daily Huddles, Pull Plans Sessions, Weekly Work Plans, PPC)
- Tool and equipment maintenance management
Safety & Compliance
- Oversee jobsite safety programs and reporting
- Ensure employee safety and project housekeeping
- Report accidents of any type to the Safety Team in a timely manner
- Conduct regular inspections to guarantee compliance with building codes and safety regulations
- Obtain and track all necessary city inspections
Documentation & Communication
- Create and maintain daily job reports
- Take and maintain jobsite progress photographs
- Keep daily time records and accurate cost centers for each employee
- Code materials to proper cost centers
- Communicate project progress to stakeholders
- Attend all jobsite meetings
- Handle any issues or delays that may arise during construction
Technical Oversight
- Review shop drawings for contract conformance, field dimensions, etc.
- Interpret and review project blueprints
- Maintain jobsite "record set" drawings
- Understand all Prime contract terms and conditions, contract documents, subcontractor agreements, scopes of work, purchase order agreements, and ensure contract compliance
Project Completion
- Complete all punch list items
- Turn over keys and obtain written receipt from owner
- Obtain and terminate all temporary utilities requests
- Assist with project team in providing owner closeout deliverables as necessary
Team Leadership
- Build and maintain client relations
- Mentor and train Assistant Superintendents and Assistant Project Managers on their job duties
- Assist the project team as required
- Complete training requirements as assigned and ensure Project Team actively participates in assigned training
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, or related field
- 5 years of relevant experience in commercial construction
- Experience supervising numerous commercial projects
- Experience with higher education, K-12, and healthcare projects preferred
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in construction management software (Primavera, Bluebeam, Prolog, Procore, Timberline)
- Strong understanding of construction site operations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately
- Expertise in project scheduling and quality control
- Knowledge of construction contracts and documentation
Certifications
- OSHA 30 certification required
- Confined Space Awareness, First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred
