Geocomp is currently recruiting for a Civil / Structural Instrumentation and Monitoring Engineer for our California office. Geocomp's instrumentation and monitoring services provide implementation and operation of complex monitoring systems, to protect critical infrastructure during construction and operation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for installing Geotechnical and Structural Monitoring Systems for heavy civil infrastructure and supporting our Geo-structural Engineering consulting practice. There will be a mix of field and office work depending on specific projects. Duties include field and office work associated with installing and monitoring performance monitoring equipment, and geo-structural engineering, including :
- Assist Project Managers / Estimators developing new proposals for I&M opportunities, including preparing take-offs, bids, proposals, reports for instrumentation and consulting projects nationwide
- Assembling instrumentation and dataloggers
- Programming dataloggers
- Field inspection of construction activities
- Field supervision of drill rigs including soil sampling for geotechnical evaluation
- Drafting boring logs
- Installing instrumentation in the field
- Downloading and reducing field data
- Occasional climbing up to ladders and lifting up to 50 lbs to install or decommission instrumentation
- Operation of power tools and hand tools (hammer drill, Sawzall, wrenches, etc)
- Producing reports
- Coordinating and communicating with clients, subcontractors, and others
- Hybrid work arrangement : This role is primarily remote. While Geocomp has an office located in Los Angeles, there are currently no in-person office attendance requirements. However, candidates based in the Los Angeles Metro Area may be expected to attend in-person office days in the future.
- Other support activities, as needed
Preferred candidate locations include Sacramento Metro Area, Los Angeles Metro Area, or Central Valley, California

Physical Demand :
The candidate must have the ability to climb ladders and lift / carry up to 50 lbs. This position may require work performed in confined spaces and at heights in excess of 10 feet. Some of the work may be performed in the field where exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, variations in temperature and humidity, fumes and various types of construction equipment may apply.
