Job Details
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Prototyping Engineer to join our team. This role involves using the Scale Shop s engineering, design, and prototyping equipment to assist local startup companies in scaling production of their designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in prototyping and scaling new products with particular experience designing, prototyping, assembling, debugging, and testing custom electrical PCBs and systems assembled from COTS parts.
<>Key Responsibilities:- Use the Scale Shop resources to assist startup companies with electrical design, fabrication, testing, and design for manufacturability.
- Conduct design reviews and provide coaching and feedback to startups companies.
- Support the IW Manufacturing team in recruiting, selecting, and maximizing the number of startup companies assisted by the Scale Shop.
- Support the development of documentation necessary to assist startup companies participating in the Scale program
- Support the addition of new supplies, equipment, and software needed to assist startup companies.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, design documentation, and engineering drawings to ensure proper specifications.
- Manage general upkeep and maintenance of electronics prototyping facilities and equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following OSHA standards and company policies.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Use the Scale Shop resources to assist startup companies with mechanical fabrication, testing, and design for manufacturability.
- Support the Manufacturing team in providing Level 1 & Level 2 Safety Training
- Support the Manufacturing team in regular preventative maintenance and repair of the Scale Shop equipment.
- Support the development of documentation necessary to maintain, operate, and train individuals to use Scale Shop equipment.
Qualifications & Skills, Required
- BS in Electrical Engineering or Technical certification/associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with electrical engineering and prototyping custom designs.
- Proficiency with ECAD software such as Altium, Eagle, KiCAD
- Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical diagrams and schematics.
- Experience reading and using technical drawings and documentation for electromechanical systems.
- Experience soldering through-hole and surface-mount components.
- Experience in designing and prototyping wire harnesses and connector selection.
- Strong problem-solving skills,attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Experience designing, fabricating, and reworking printed circuit boards utilizing through-hole & surface mount components.
- Experience prototyping electromechanical systems using COTS parts with a variety of motion control methods
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed
Qualifications & Skills, Preferred
- MS in Robotics, Electro-mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience transitioning from prototype electronics (Rasberry Pi/Arduino/Jetson Nano/ESP32) to commercial ready electronics
- Experience using electronic testing and analysis equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers) for performing signal analysis and data interpretation
- Experience analyzing, selecting, and sourcing electronic components for custom electromechanical systems and PCBs
- Entrepreneurial experience; ability to work budgets, estimate costs, and lead time
- Prototype, diagnose, and repair industrial automation systems using motors, VFDs, DIN rail components, and PLCs.
- Experience working directly with external customers in a service capacity
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to work in a prototyping environment with exposure to noise, machinery, electrical, and other related hazards
- May require occasional evening and weekend shifts based on project demands.
