The Director of Communications and Community Giving will serve as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team. This role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive employee and corporate communication strategies, media relations, managing Guenther Gives (CHG’s corporate giving program) to enhance the company's reputation and community impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications Strategy:

  • Develop and implement integrated communication plans that align with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Develop and execute global communications initiatives to support activities of other departments/divisions.
  • Establish, own, and drive a strategic internal and external employee communications strategy and annual plan that positively influences employees’ and external audiences’ understanding, engagement, and commitment, resulting in a stronger connection to the company.
  • Oversee all internal and external employee communications, including press releases (if required), newsletters, social media, etc.
  • Manage all existing employee communications channels (intranet, digital bulletin boards, mass email messaging, corporate newsletter, etc.) and continually seek out new channels to meet evolving company needs.
  • Develop compelling content to ensure consistent, integrated delivery of the company story, positioning, and key messages across all internal audiences.
  • Improve the flow of information, increase the relevance of content, and enhance the company's ability to engage with employees directly.
  • Develop and execute communications, branding, and web strategy related to M&A activities.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Collaborate with relevant areas within the organization to develop a crisis communication strategy. Respond swiftly and effectively in the event of a crisis to provide clarity to key audiences and protect the company’s reputation.

Leadership Support:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team and other top leaders to create and implement companywide and division-specific communication strategies.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of the CEO’s quarterly employee Town Hall meetings, including gathering input, developing talking points, organizing the event, and providing follow-up.
  • Develop leadership communications, including key messages, talking points, employee recognition, speeches, and more.
  • Advise leadership on public statements, ensuring clarity of message and consistency with the corporate image.

Corporate Giving Program:

  • Design and oversee the corporate giving strategy, including charitable donations, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
  • Assess and select charitable initiatives that align with the company's values and objectives.
  • Monitor and report on the impact of corporate giving initiatives.
  • Work with HR to foster a corporate culture that promotes social responsibility and proactive community relations.
  • Manage relationships with key community stakeholders and support local teams with their local outreach
  • Collaborate with HR to cultivate a corporate culture that supports social responsibility and proactive community relations.

Media Relations:

  • Partner with CHRO to plan, facilitate, and coordinate all media relations for the company (in cooperation with the General Counsel and relevant stakeholders as needed).
  • Develop a media relations strategy, including promoting effective communications through print, online, and broadcast media.
  • Monitor public sentiment and media coverage to gauge the effectiveness of the company’s communications and make adjustments as needed.
  • Coordinate media access (including interviews and photo shoots) to team members who are asked to comment on issues within their expertise.
  •  Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient use of a computer, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), and other related applications or software.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies.
  • Strong understanding of corporate giving programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and act tactically.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others.
  • Passion for community engagement and corporate social responsibility.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage 1 direct report
  • Work requires supervising and monitoring work performance of direct reports including making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, and realigning work and staffing assignments, as needed.
  • Develop functional responsibilities of individuals that report to this position and ensure that best in-class output is created.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Typical work in office environment
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Travel required as per business needs (approximately 10%)
