Regional Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety

The Regional EHS Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing the Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across multiple food manufacturing facilities within a designated region. This individual will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, promote a culture of safety, and lead initiatives aimed at reducing workplace hazards, environmental impacts, and risks to employee health. They will also drive continuous improvement efforts in EHS performance, manage EHS audits and inspections, and provide training to facility personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • EHS Compliance and Regulatory Management:
    • Ensure facilities comply with all relevant EHS laws, regulations, and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and FDA requirements.
    • Monitor and maintain environmental permits, safety programs, and documentation.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify compliance gaps and corrective actions.
    • Liaise with external regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
  • Safety Programs and Risk Management:
    • Implement and monitor safety policies and procedures to minimize workplace injuries and accidents.
    • Assist with the investigation of workplace incidents and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
    • Track and analyze safety performance metrics, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
    • Oversee hazard assessments, risk analysis, and emergency preparedness plans (e.g., fire, chemical spills).
  • Training and Employee Engagement:
    • Assist the local EHS teams with EHS-related training programs to facility personnel, including hazard communication, personal protective equipment (PPE), ergonomics, emergency response, and food safety protocols.
    • Engage with employees at all levels to promote a strong safety culture and encourage reporting of hazards or unsafe conditions.
    • Assist in the development of training materials, presentations, and EHS resources.
  • Environmental Management:
    • Oversee waste management, recycling, air and water quality, and other environmental concerns in compliance with environmental regulations.
    • Develop and implement strategies to reduce environmental impact at our facilities.
    • Monitor facility waste streams and work with suppliers and vendors to ensure waste disposal and recycling methods comply with regulations.
  • Incident and Accident Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of workplace injuries, illnesses, accidents, and environmental incidents.
    • Ensure timely and accurate submission of incident reports to regulatory agencies and management.
    • Assist local EHS teams with the develop of corrective action plans for incidents, track progress, and report on the effectiveness of mitigation efforts.
  • Continuous Improvement and Reporting:
    • Lead or participate in EHS improvement initiatives and support process optimization to improve safety and reduce environmental impact.
    • Prepare and present EHS performance reports to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
    • Monitor EHS trends, industry best practices, and emerging regulations to stay ahead of potential risks and challenges.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Manage and support local EHS teams at each facility within the region, providing guidance and mentorship.
    • Ensure all team members are adequately trained and aligned with corporate EHS goals and objectives.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in an EHS role, with at least 1 year in regional leadership capacity within food manufacturing or a related industry.
  • Extensive experience with federal and state EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and FDA. Canadian regulations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, food safety standards (HACCP, SQF, etc.), and environmental management systems is a plus.
  • Process Safety Management and Risk Management experience is preferred.
  • Experience with behavior-based safety (BBS) programs required.
  • Experience with Canadian Provincial Ministries of Health is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient use of a computer, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), and other related applications or software.
  • Proficiency with EHS software and systems (e.g., incident reporting tools, environmental monitoring platforms).
  • Proven ability to communicate and partner effectively with all levels of leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to build/maintain positive safety cultures in partnership with operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety principles relating to a manufacturing environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple direct reports including but not limited to: EHS Manager(s), EHS Leader(s).
  • Work requires supervising and monitoring work performance of direct reports including making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, and realigning work and staffing assignments, as needed.
  • Develop functional responsibilities of individuals that report to this position and ensure that best in-class output is created.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Primarily office-based, but regular presence in the plant is required to interact with plant operations, leadership, and staff. You may be required to visit different areas of the plant to observe operations and gather data where you will be exposed to unusual elements (dirt, dust, fumes, odors, noise).
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up and carry 15 pounds at times.
  • Travel on an as-needed basis (up to 50%), which may vary depending on business requirements.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is:

$91,093.00 - $169,020.00
