JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION The Sr Radiological Control Engineer is responsible to ensure that radiological control policies and procedures are incorporated into WVDP activities in order to protect workers, the public and the environment, and to ensure compliance with industry standards pertaining to nuclear radiation. |

Other Requirements: Must possess mastery knowledge of radiation protection and health physics theories, principles, techniques, policies, regulations, and legal requirements to apply theories and new technologies to successfully complete a wide variety of complex assignments. Must be able to identify and resolve a wide variety of complex assignments. Must possess highly developed organizational skills and be able to manage projects and special assignments to deliver results onetime and within budget. Must be able to work independently under consultative direction and to be technically competent to work on the most complex radiation control activities and recommend changes in systems and procedures. Must be able to act as lead person or technical expert to direct the work of others, develop and implement special projects and resources, write procedures and guidelines. Must be able to use independent judgment to provide solutions to a wide range of complex problems. Receives assignments in terms of required objectives, establishes own priorities and guidelines, and follows broadly defined procedures. Must be able to interpret federal regulations and subsequent policy and procedure development. Regulations tend not to be prescriptive; they allow considerable leeway in their interpretation. In order to implement these regulations, considerable knowledge of their intent and bases is needed. Must possess extensive research and health physics knowledge. Must possess considerable creativity to develop the policies and procedures which implement the regulations while minimizing adverse impact on the WVDP work programs. Must be able to make decisions within established guidelines, exercise initiative in completing recurring assignments independently and determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation. Must be able to guide and direct lower-level employees, as well as Radiological Control Technicians, crafts and operators. Must be able to perform broad and intensive practices to establish concepts, theories, or programs, or to resolve complex problems. Must possess mastery knowledge of industry specific software applications. Must justify, defend, negotiate, or settle matters involving significant or controversial issues. Must be able to interface with individuals or groups from inside and outside of the organization, senior management, as well as high-ranking officials from outside the organization. May be required to make presentations to employees, managers, senior managers and/or others. Must be able to justify, defend, negotiate, or settle radiation control matters involving significant or controversial issues in accordance to CHBWV practices. |
