Special Education Teacher

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver instruction aligned with Common Core Standards, tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Maintain up-to-date lesson plans and unit plans for all courses.
  • Foster a safe, supportive classroom environment that promotes academic success.
  • Keep the classroom well-organized and conducive to learning.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students, ensuring all components are completed and stakeholders informed.
  • Complete required reports (IEP updates, report cards, quarterly progress reports) on time.
  • Collaborate regularly with parents/guardians to keep them informed of their child’s progress.
  • Participate in school committees, clubs, and improvement processes.
  • Guide classroom paraprofessionals to enhance student engagement and achievement.
  • Administer assessments to inform and adjust instruction as needed.
  • May be required to teach during summer school, based on staffing needs.
  • Attend after-school events such as Parent/Teacher Conferences as required.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Special Education Teaching Certificate or Special Education Endorsement required.
  • If not currently certified or endorsed, must obtain certification/endorsement within six months of hire.
  • Two years of related experience in a school environment preferred.
