Controls Engineering Internship

Who We Want:

We are looking for motivated junior and senior level college students majoring in electrical/controls engineering to help use in our program launch in Spartanburg, South Carolina!

What You’ll Do:

This internship will be project based. Below is a real project example of what you would be working on.

  • Develop and Implement an Ignition HMI Screen for Conveyor Systems
  • Learn and gain hands-on experience with Ignition software.
  • Connect to PLCs and observe real-time interaction between Ignition and the PLCs.
  • Design and develop a conveyor system HMI screen to enhance system monitoring.
  • Improve Kawasaki Robot HMI Interface
  • Review the current Kawasaki robot HMI screen.
  • Analyze the robot bit map and extract useful data for a better user experience.
  • Develop and implement an improved screen layout that enhances usability and efficiency.
  • Optimize HMI Template for Efficiency
  • Review the existing HMI template and identify inefficiencies.
  • Reduce tag count while maintaining functionality and performance.
  • Utilize Ignition software tools to improve user-friendliness for operators.
  • Incorporate Stamping Images into the HMI
  • Add images of stamped parts to the HMI.
  • Display part presence locations on consumed parts for better operator visibility.
  • Ensure images improve clarity and usability without compromising system performance.

The Completed Tasks Should Result In:

  • A functional and improved Ignition HMI for conveyor monitoring.
  • A more user-friendly and efficient Kawasaki robot HMI interface.
  • An optimized HMI template that enhances performance and usability.
  • A visually informative HMI with stamping images for part tracking.

When And Where:

This will be a 1 st Shift M-F position located at our Plant in Spartanburg, SC.

What You Need To Have:

  • Must be a current college student in Junior or Senior year with a major in electrical or controls engineering
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Applications (e.g. word, excel, outlook, etc).
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Pneumatics, and Hydraulics experience a plus
  • Basic knowledge of relevant robotic controls and processes a plus
  • Has high standards of performance for self. Takes responsibility for actions, results, and mistakes. Is thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks; demonstrates honesty and integrity in all aspects of work.
  • Takes positive action to objectively resolve conflict by listening, staying focused on issue to find resolution, and monitoring progress. Maintains positive relationships by constructively resolving conflicts.
  • Uses feedback from others to continuously improve performance and work relationships.
  • Moves within own and/or other work areas (flexes) to support plant flow. Works with sense of urgency to meet needs of customers.
  • Has necessary experience, skills, and knowledge to perform all aspects of job; rotates through all job responsibilities. Maintains knowledge and skills to perform job effectively.
  • Has ability to focus on benefits of change and see it as positive; approaches change or newness in constructive/objective manner; views change as learning opportunity.
  • Looks for good in others; works collaboratively with others; shares information and knowledge.
  • Updates and relays pertinent information to oncoming shift
  • Is at work when scheduled and ensures coverage when absent; takes timely breaks/lunches; uses time wisely.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal workplace instructions
  • Must be able to work up to 12 hours per day including Saturday and Sunday
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Able to prioritize tasks
  • Valid forklift license issued by Challenge Manufacturing
  • Valid Scissor Lift license issued by Challenge Manufacturing
  • Steel-toed shoes required onsite
