Description
This position is primarily responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, promoting, and implementing quality legislative priorities and advocacy for the Chamber membership and Tulsa regional partners. Provides networking and communications opportunities for members through organized events with local, state, and federal elected officials.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with developing and promoting the Tulsa Regional OneVoice Legislative Agenda, Tulsa Regional Chamber priorities, and Joint Tulsa/Oklahoma City Legislative Agenda.
- Engages in the legislative process at the State Capitol as a registered lobbyist by monitoring legislation important to the OneVoice and Tulsa Chamber agendas. Lobbies to advance those legislative issues.
- Manages issue-specific legislative task forces, including the recruitment of volunteer task force chairs and members.
- Assists with coordinating the process of local funding package campaigns by facilitating various community leaders, elected and non-elected, to bring about successful public votes for these packages. This process includes fundraising to fund the campaign and communicating with the various leaders involved.
- Plays an active role in managing the Tulsa Regional Chamber’s two political action committees: TulsaBizPac and OklahomaBizPac.
- Maintains positive working relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials.
- Conducts research and analysis on federal, state, and local policy issues.
- Assists with the preparing, writing, and disseminating quality research-based issue briefs, alerts, and reports.
- Assists where needed to organize and manage all legislative events including Congressional Forums, Legislative Briefing Breakfasts, Mayor’s State of the State, Governor’s State of the State, Speaker Pro Tempore Forum, Capitol luncheons, Tulsa Regional Day at the Capitol, Washington D.C. Fly-In, Human Resources Forums, and Legislative Receptions as outlined in the Chamber’s resource campaign.
- Attends public meetings for City Council, County Commission, and state legislature where appropriate.
- Attends INCOG, CTAG, and other public meetings related to legislative policies within the region and state.
- Assists with developing political communications strategies for the Tulsa Regional Chamber’s top political priorities, including core talking points, inclusion of key stakeholders, and best methods of delivery.
- Assists with weekly “Legislative Updates” for Chamber members and OneVoice partners during legislative session.
- Works with Communications and Marketing departments on scripts for legislative events for leadership and sponsor recognition.
- Responsible for achieving a satisfactory rating annually as it relates to approved annual objectives and talent development action plan (TDAP).
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree required and 2 years of experience in communications or government relations.

WORK AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment: Normally a typical office environment with people, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, with occasional outdoor exposure to heat, cold, and environmental elements.
- Physical demands: Manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment. Able to read, write, and interpret written documents. Occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
