Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Location: Deerfield, IL (On-site at first, then Hybrid)

Duration & Type: Initial 12-Month Contract with likely extensions

Chamberlain Advisors is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist for our direct client in the healthcare and retail pharmacy industry. This is an initial 12-month contract with likely extensions.

The Payroll Specialist supports the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and related services, including recordkeeping, benefit administration, and reporting. This position administers Prime's time tracking and payroll systems and provides support to the benefits and Human Resources team. Click apply now and join the Chamberlain experience.

What You Will Be Accountable For

  • Adhere to payroll workflow to ensure accurate and timely entry and processing of assigned payroll transactions, such as new hires, gift cards, COBRA notices, and employee master information changes.
  • Administer contractor onboarding and updates, ensuring proper setup of information and valid data transfers to/from the payroll service.
  • Provide superior customer service and problem resolution as a primary contact for benefit programs, unemployment, and payroll inquiries and requests.
  • Assist with the employee onboarding process and provide necessary information to new hires to acclimate them to Prime.
  • Establish and maintain personnel files, ensuring records are correctly filed, maintained, reviewed, and archived.
  • Provide phone support to field staff regarding payroll checks and miscellaneous questions.
  • Research and resolve payroll inquiries from the field regarding processed payments, making corrections in the system when necessary.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure payroll processing deadlines are met and assist with exception/audit reports before processing payroll.
  • Perform all payroll functions in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What Qualifications You Need

  • High School Diploma/GED required; Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in payroll, accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with various audiences.
  • Proficiency in time management, including prioritizing, organizing, and tracking details to meet deadlines.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formatting, using formulas, and basic data entry functions).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word (e.g., formatting text, inserting elements, and using tracking functions).
  • Ability to work independently, accomplish goals with minimal supervision, and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Preferred qualifications include at least 2 years of experience in clerical accounting and/or payroll garnishments, payroll certification, and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, Teams, and OneDrive).
