Temporary Summer Maintenance Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION

MAINTENANCE WORKER QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or equivalent. :
2. Minimum of two (2) years experience as maintenance worker.
3. Training and experience in a given trade such as heating/air conditioning, plumbing/boiler repair, electrical, carpentry, or painting.
4. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations. FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt SUPERVISED BY: Maintenance Foreman, Facilities Director
1. Knowledge of trades for assigned areas.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
2. Knowledge of and skill to use tools of the trades safely.
3. Skill in reading, interpreting and applying information in technical manuals and other documents.
4. Ability to perform routine duties guided by standard practices.
5. Ability to take initiative to begin and complete projects without supervision.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
7. Ability to troubleshoot problems and implement corrective actions.
8. Ability to utilize the services of maintenance helpers as available. JOB GOAL: To efficiently maintain facilities and equipment in the system in a safe and attractive condition.
1. Repairs and maintains all types of plumbing, both water supply and drain and/or sewer systems. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
2. Performs basic repairs to HVAC systems, coolers, freezer units, and ice machines.
3. Performs all types of repairs to kitchen equipment both mechanical and electrical.
4. Does carpentry jobs as needed including the building of new walls and doorways, repairing cabinetry and desks or existing structures, and building new structures.
5. Changes filters at all sites in the system.
6. Maintains and repairs electrical wiring and lights at all sites in the system.
7. Maintains and repairs door locks and door hardware at all sites in the system.
8. Repairs roof leaks at all sites in the system.
9. Installs automatic controls where needed.
10. Welds and builds products as needed.
11. Assists in surplus pickup at all sites in the system.
12. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
13. Ensures adherence to good safety standards.
14. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
15. Follows attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
16. Works with other maintenance personnel on assigned projects.
17. Maintains work logs which show parts and equipment utilized.
18. Assists Maintenance Foreman in maintaining department inventory of parts, materials, and supplies.
19. Meets and deals effectively with the general public, staff members, students, parents, administrators and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
20. Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
21. Maintains proper care of tools and materials.
22. Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff and administrators.
23. Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
24. Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
25. Prepares all required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
26. Follows federal and state laws and School Board policies.
27. Exhibits interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
28. Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
29. Performs other job-related tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position as assigned by supervisor. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, benefits, length of work year and hours shall be determined by the Board’s salary schedule. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.

BUS SHOP TECHNICHIAN

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A high school diploma or GED
2. Must be able to obtain an Alabama CDL and bus Driver’s Certificate within six (6) months of employment.
3. Must meet all local, state, and federal licensing requirements and regulations required to operate a school bus and automobile.
4. Must be certified by State Department of Pupil Transportation within one (1) year.
5. Must pass and is subject to drug tests as required by federal and state law and the Board's policies regarding drug testing, operating school-owned vehicles, transporting students and all applicable policies.
6. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

SUPERVISED BY: Bus Shop Foreman and Transportation Director

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding and proficiency of mechanical repair.
2. Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle problems.
3. Able to lift and install heavy parts.
4. Ability to read instruction manuals and printed instructions.
5. Ability to communicate effectively and follow instruction.
6. Physically able to use heavy tools and equipment.
7. Physical dexterity, mobility, and strength to stoop, bend, lift, reach, and climb as needed to perform the essential functions of this position.

JOB GOAL:

To implement an effective and efficient program of vehicle maintenance to ensure the safe transportation of students and school system employees.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Accepts and completes foreman’s assigned jobs and overall supervision.
2. Maintains safety standards at all times.
3. Maintains good relationships with drivers and other school employees.
4. Accurately diagnoses and repairs school system transportation equipment.
5. Assumes responsibility for the proper use of all parts received.
6. Reports any abuse of vehicles and/or equipment to the Transportation Director or Bus Shop Foreman.
7. Exhibits skill and efficiency in performing routine and preventive maintenance to all vehicles and equipment.
8. Maintains work hours in accordance with Board policy; reports absences in a timely manner.
9. Reports job-related injuries according to Board procedures.
10. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
11. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
12. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
13. Maintains expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives.
14. Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
15. Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
16. Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
17. Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
18. Exhibits interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
19. Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
20. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.
21. Operates system-owned vehicles in accordance with state law and Board policies.
22. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's salary schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s performance assessment policy for support personnel.
