JOB DESCRIPTION
MAINTENANCE WORKER QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or equivalent. :
2. Minimum of two (2) years experience as maintenance worker.
3. Training and experience in a given trade such as heating/air conditioning, plumbing/boiler repair, electrical, carpentry, or painting.
4. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations. FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt SUPERVISED BY: Maintenance Foreman, Facilities Director
1. Knowledge of trades for assigned areas.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
2. Knowledge of and skill to use tools of the trades safely.
3. Skill in reading, interpreting and applying information in technical manuals and other documents.
4. Ability to perform routine duties guided by standard practices.
5. Ability to take initiative to begin and complete projects without supervision.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
7. Ability to troubleshoot problems and implement corrective actions.
8. Ability to utilize the services of maintenance helpers as available. JOB GOAL: To efficiently maintain facilities and equipment in the system in a safe and attractive condition.
1. Repairs and maintains all types of plumbing, both water supply and drain and/or sewer systems. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
2. Performs basic repairs to HVAC systems, coolers, freezer units, and ice machines.
3. Performs all types of repairs to kitchen equipment both mechanical and electrical.
4. Does carpentry jobs as needed including the building of new walls and doorways, repairing cabinetry and desks or existing structures, and building new structures.
5. Changes filters at all sites in the system.
6. Maintains and repairs electrical wiring and lights at all sites in the system.
7. Maintains and repairs door locks and door hardware at all sites in the system.
8. Repairs roof leaks at all sites in the system.
9. Installs automatic controls where needed.
10. Welds and builds products as needed.
11. Assists in surplus pickup at all sites in the system.
12. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
13. Ensures adherence to good safety standards.
14. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
15. Follows attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
16. Works with other maintenance personnel on assigned projects.
17. Maintains work logs which show parts and equipment utilized.
18. Assists Maintenance Foreman in maintaining department inventory of parts, materials, and supplies.
19. Meets and deals effectively with the general public, staff members, students, parents, administrators and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
20. Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
21. Maintains proper care of tools and materials.
22. Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff and administrators.
23. Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
24. Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
25. Prepares all required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
26. Follows federal and state laws and School Board policies.
27. Exhibits interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
28. Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
29. Performs other job-related tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position as assigned by supervisor. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, benefits, length of work year and hours shall be determined by the Board’s salary schedule. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
