We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Estate Planning and Probate Attorney to join our Estate Planning and Administration section.
Location: This position is required to sit on-site in our downtown Chattanooga office. Applicants must be willing to relocate or commute to this location to be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on estate planning strategies, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and tax planning.
- Represent fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and heirs in probate proceedings, including contested matters.
- Draft and review estate planning documents, trust agreements, and probate pleadings.
- Handle estate and trust administration, including asset distribution, creditor claims, and tax compliance.
- Work with attorneys and clients on probate administration matters.
- Experience with probate litigation. Ability to handle motions and contested motions and hearings.
- Provide counsel on business succession planning and charitable giving strategies.
- Stay current on federal and state laws affecting estate planning, probate, and tax regulations.
- Work closely with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to develop comprehensive plans for clients.
- Attend court hearings and client meetings (as necessary).
- Participate in firm business development, including client outreach and networking.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active state bar membership in Tennessee, or the ability to seek admission in Tennessee.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in estate planning and probate law.
- Strong knowledge of probate court procedures and estate tax laws.
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication to effectively advocate for and work with various types of clients is vital.
