Chaminade College Preparatory seeks a dynamic, innovative, and engaging ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CAMPUS MINISTRY with great ministerial and pastoral skills for our high school campus (grades 9-12) in West Hills, California.
This position includes 60% ministerial responsibilities in Campus Ministry and 40% teaching responsibilities (2 classes). Classes can be in any subject (subject to available FTEs in that subject).
The Successful Candidate
- Is an active, practicing Catholic who creates an environment that fosters an active love of God and inspires students to seek a deeper knowledge of God (faith seeking understanding).
- Has a strong commitment to the values of a Catholic, Marianist education.
- Has a robust understanding and experience of Campus Ministry programs and will be able to support and journey with students in their faith life.
- Has an exemplary work ethic characterized by high standards of ethics and personal conduct, honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
- Has experience teaching high school students and has delivered lessons that support and instruct students as they continue to develop analytical and evaluative thinking, reading, and writing skills.
Key Responsibilities
Campus Ministry
- Under the supervision of the Director of Campus Ministry, supports and assists in the coordination of grade-level retreat programs; Apostolic Works Service Learning Program; and liturgical services.
- Collaborates with Campus Ministry team to maintain and strengthen the Catholic, Marianist culture of the school.
- Models a prayer and faith life for students.
- Is available to students and colleagues in need of pastoral care or spiritual guidance.
- Designs and posts fliers, advertisements, and banners on social media and on campus for promotion of events.
- Assists in planning, preparation, and/or evaluation of Campus Ministry and/or Marianist Province sponsored events, such as, fellowship meetings; social justice initiatives; and service days.
Teaching
- Teaches two courses each semester.
- Under the supervision of the vice principals, teaches a standards based curriculum. In a timely manner, plans lessons; provides feedback and grades on assignments; maintains grades, attendance, and other school records; and communicates with students, their families, and counselors when students need support.
- Collaborates with department members and course counterpart(s) to evaluate, monitor, and update curriculum, assessment, and pacing guides under the guidance of the Department Chair.
- Ensures that instructional strategies respect students' diverse social identities while still corresponding to Catholic Marianist values and the mission of the school.
- Integrates technology by using BlackBoard Learning Management System (LMS) (can provide training), discipline based learning technology tools, and other collaborative and productivity tools (*Note: All students use a school-issued Lenovo Thinkpad tablet daily)
- Is knowledgeable about new trends and developments in instructional strategies and assessment.
Qualifications
- Has a passion for ministry and has experience organizing and implementing Campus Ministry programs or other youth ministry programs.
- Must be a self-motivated individual able to meet deadlines.
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required. A bachelor's and/or master's degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry or in any academic discipline is strongly preferred. Archdiocesan catechetical certification (or equivalent) is also preferred.
- Prior teaching experience, especially in a Catholic educational setting, is preferred; however, relevant experience in the field is also strongly considered.
- Is comfortable delivering Campus Ministry and/or instruction on campus, via remote learning, and/or in a hybrid model.
- Wants to work in a setting committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion of all school stakeholders.
- Wants to work in a setting committed to balancing teaching/learning, health, and well-being of all stakeholders.
- Participates in and attends campus life events, including supervision, lunch activities, liturgies, assemblies, retreats, etc.
Salary and Benefits
This is a salaried/exempt from overtime position. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
