Chaminade College Preparatory is actively recruiting for two full-time Dean of High School Students at our West Hills location. The Deans are an integral to furthering Chaminade's mission to inspire students to "love, learn, and lead" through our Catholic and Marianist traditions of a living faith, academic excellence, and moral responsibility. The Deans are responsible for the general safety and security of students, faculty, and visitors on campus and for the overall good conduct of the student body. The Deans are a member of the Principal's Council and the Discipline Board.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Vice Principals, oversees the school's attendance officer in collecting and reporting daily student attendance.
  • Assists the principal and the Principal's Council in formulating and modifying school discipline policies.
  • Keeps faculty and students informed of discipline regulations, orally and in writing. Determines the involvement of teachers in discipline cases and the need for their presence at conferences with the parents of students on probation or under suspension.
  • Addresses teacher-referred disciplinary problems and is generally responsible for discipline outside the classroom.
  • Provides a discipline guidance program to help students develop self-discipline through preventative and corrective measures.
  • Instructing the students in their responsibilities and privileges, notifying them of the types of behavior and actions that are not acceptable, informing them of the methods that will be used to handle violations and the penalties that will be imposed as detailed in the Parent/Student Handbook
  • Maintaining written records on student misconduct and correspondence with parents concerning such matters
  • Advising teachers on ways of guiding students toward self-discipline.
  • Contacting and arranging conferences with parents when appropriate.
  • Consult with the appropriate vice principal in serious discipline matters. Keeps the principal and Principal's Council aware of the state of school discipline. Convenes with the Discipline Board for serious/expulsion-level disciplinary issues.
  • Acts as the school liaison with police departments, courts, and other community agencies regarding school safety and disciplinary matters.
  • Arrange and coordinate daily campus security in consultation with the Physical Plant Campus Supervisor and contracted security officers. Arranges for and coordinates additional campus security as necessary for school events.
  • Organizes the supervision of students before school, during break and lunch, and after school. Organizes the faculty for assigned supervision, including:
  • Supervising nutrition break and lunch
  • Supervising students in assigned areas of the campus during special schedules or other potential problem times
  • Supervising the dismissal of students after school
  • Supervising group functions such as Masses, assemblies, rallies, dances, and other student gatherings
  • Attends and coordinates supervision of all dances, football, boys' home basketball games, and other school functions as may be deemed necessary for safety.
  • Plan and conduct regular lock-downs, fire, and earthquake drills as a function of the school's Crisis Plan. Coordinates a yearly review of the school's Crisis Plan for handling safety-related emergencies.
  • Coordinates the administration of the school's substance deterrent programs, including detection canines and the Drug/Alcohol policy, under the direction of the principal.
  • Works with parents and/or doctors in case of student illness or accident, notifying other school personnel as appropriate.
  • Conferences with students and their families in cases of excessive absence, tardiness, or serious disciplinary matters. Refers students with excessive absences to the appropriate counselor and Vice Principal. Applies discipline policy as necessary for issues pertaining to attendance.
  • Holds detention sessions and administers suspensions in instances stated in the Parent Student Handbook.
  • Coordinates and creates bell schedules.
  • Approves and coordinates general announcements over the PA system.
  • Manages student vehicle use on campus and adjacent streets.
  • Assigns student lockers and ensures the upkeep and maintenance of the lockers.
  • Monitors students for compliance with the dress code standards as stated in the Chaminade College Preparatory High School Uniform Dress Code as a daily routine.
  • Assists in the annual revision of the Parent/Student Handbook, focusing on the disciplinary policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Principles and practices of training and providing work direction.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Recording-keeping techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Work cooperatively with others
  • Operate a personal computer, calculator, and standard office equipment
  • Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt a practical course of action
  • Meet schedules and timelines
  • Maintain records and prepare reports
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Understand and work within the scope of authority

Licenses and Certifications:

  • CPR/First Aid/AED/Narcan Certification Required
  • Virtus Training Required
  • Workplace Harassment Training Required

Salary and Benefits:

This is a salaried/exempt from overtime position. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
