  1. Position Summary 

The Director of Inclusive Excellence and Academic Success reports to the Associate Provost and plays a crucial role in advancing student persistence, retention, and success by bridging faculty partnerships, data-driven decision-making, and coordinating academic tradition events. This position focuses on supporting faculty in their efforts to enhance student success and engagement while leading key university ceremonies that celebrate academic achievement. 

With a strong emphasis on faculty collaboration, student success analytics, and academic traditions, the Director ensures that at-promise students receive the academic support they need while fostering a culture of persistence and graduation at Chaminade University.

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Faculty Partnerships & Retention Initiatives (30%) 

    • Collaborate closely with the Office of Student Success and faculty to design, implement, and sustain strategies that improve student retention and academic engagement. 
    • Develop and facilitate early intervention strategies and holistic support approaches that enhance student persistence outside of the classroom. 
    • Work with faculty and academic leaders to implement early warning systems and interventions that identify at-promise students and connect them to support. 
    • Coordinate retention efforts, supporting faculty in designing curriculum enhancements and engagement strategies that promote student persistence. 
    • Build interdisciplinary faculty partnerships to create a more cohesive academic support system across departments. 
    • Champion faculty-driven student success initiatives, ensuring alignment with Chaminade’s Strategic Plan 2024-2029. 
    • Lead efforts to strengthen faculty-student engagement through mentorship programs, faculty office hour initiatives, and collaborative learning communities. 
    • Serve as a liaison between faculty and student support services, ensuring students are effectively guided to available academic resources. 
    • Play an instrumental role in improving, tracking and addressing student attendance issues as well as student feedback via midsemester evaluation process. 

Ceremonial and Academic Traditions (25%) 

    • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of major academic ceremonies, including commencement, convocation, and other milestone events. 
    • Ensure ceremonial events reflect Chaminade University's Catholic, Marianist values and traditions. 
    • Coordinate with faculty, academic units, academic affairs, facilities, and external vendors to create meaningful ceremonial experiences. 
    • Manage ceremonial logistics, including academic regalia, protocols, event coordination, and budget oversight. 
    • Innovate to enhance the significance and impact of university traditions, making them more inclusive and engaging. 
    • Serve as the institutional authority on academic traditions, regalia, and ceremonial practices.

Data-Informed Student Success Strategies (20%) 

    • Utilize student performance data, retention analytics, and faculty feedback to guide evidence-based intervention strategies. 
    • Lead efforts in tracking and analyzing student success metrics, including course progression, retention rates, and degree completion trends. 
    • Collaborate with Institutional Research and IT to implement predictive analytics that identify academic risk factors. 
    • Develop faculty dashboards and data reports that help instructors monitor student engagement, performance, and progression. 
    • Regularly assess the effectiveness of faculty-led student success initiatives and provide actionable recommendations for improvement. 
    • Contribute to institutional retention and student success reports, helping to shape university-wide strategies. 
    • Support the integration of student success technologies, such as learning management systems, student success networks, and academic early alert tools. 
    • Ensure faculty have access to data-driven insights and resources to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. 

Student Advocacy & Proactive Intervention (20%) 

    • Lead outreach efforts for students identified as at-promise, including those on academic notice or struggling with coursework. 
    • Develop peer mentoring and coaching programs to foster a network of academic support. 
    • Coordinate with advising, tutoring, and academic affairs to provide wraparound support services. 

Technology & Systems Management (5%) 

    • Serve as a campus resource for student success technologies, such as Stellic and Experience 
    • Train faculty and staff on best practices for leveraging technology to support student persistence. 
    • Ensure academic intervention strategies align with campus-wide data systems and reporting tools. 
    • Identify and implement new technologies to enhance faculty-student engagement and support structures.

  1. Education and Experience 

Minimum 

A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Human Resources, or other related field is required. 

Preferred 

A Master's Degree in Educational Administration, academic/career counseling, educational leadership, education, or another related field.

  1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university. 
    • Experience in teaching, counseling, or administration in higher education. 
    • Experience working with Pacific Islander, Asian American, and local Hawaii students highly preferred. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 
    • Organized with meticulous attention to detail. 
    • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources. 
    • Ability to meet deadlines. 
    • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports. 
    • Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality.
  1. Physical Requirements 

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.  Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. 

  1. Other Requirements:  
    • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required.  Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule. 
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor. 
    • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
