FLSA: Non-Exempt IMRF: Not Eligible (works less than 1000 hours annually)
Pay: $16.43-$23.80 per hour, starting pay at base of range
Hours: This is a seasonal position (approximately 16-24 hours/week) on weekends and holidays from late May through early September. The primary work location for this position is Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet.
Primary Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Provide safety and general information regarding rental rates and operation of boats and equipment to patrons in a friendly and courteous manner
- Distribute safety equipment and ensure proper usage, assist customers in and out of boats
- Calculate and collect rental payments, maintain accurate records of rental transactions
- Clean and maintain interior and exterior of pedal boats, and kayaks
- Monitor area and report any unsafe conditions and/or equipment to supervisor
REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications
- Ability to understand and follow both verbal and written directions
- Good communication skills and ability to maintain good working relationships with supervisors, team members, volunteers, and the public
- Must possess good math skills to properly handle monetary transactions
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, to exercise judgment in the performance of duties, and to identify or solve problems as they arise
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge and experience with boats
- Prior experience with customer service
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification within 1 month of employment
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily performed outdoors under various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, or ice. Duties will be performed in close proximity to the general public and the employee may have frequent interactions with patrons. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to hazardous flora and fauna (e.g. poison ivy, wild parsnip, biting/stinging insects, ticks) and chemicals (e.g. cleaning supplies, herbicides/pesticides, and gasoline/oil). The employee may also be exposed to machinery with moving mechanical parts and/or high noise levels.
