Summary
The CUSR Afterschool Program Leader supports the Program Director in leading activities for participants in CUSR programs. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe environment, following risk management procedures, and helping participants succeed in the program.
CUSR Afterschool Program Leaders will work with youth and teen participants, engaging them in activities such as crafts, outdoor play, and cooking. This position follows a fall and spring season curriculum and operates at two locations: Champaign and Urbana. Program Leaders may work at one or both locations.
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age preferred, but not required
- Interest in working with people who have disabilities
- Experience in specific program area
Supervision
The CUSR Afterschool Program Leader reports to the CUSR Afterschool Program Director and the Program Coordinator for which program(s) you work for.
Training – Can be obtained through Champaign Park District
- First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification
- Heads Up Concussion training
- Mandated reporter training
- Harassment prevention training
- Bloodborne pathogen training
- Recreation software system training
- HR Software Training
- Driver training and test if applicable
- Facility training
- Attend and complete CPI training the next available training date
- Complete CCRS Training
Classification
- Non-Exempt, hourly
- Part-time 2 (not to exceed 19 hours per week)
Essential Functions
- Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees.
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of participants during all activities.
- Enforce program rules and regulations, promoting a safe and positive environment.
- Administer first aid and minor medical attention as needed.
- Assist in maintaining and monitoring the program's first aid kit
- Notify Program Director of first aid supplies needed
- Maintain constant oversight of participants, especially near water and during high-risk activities.
- Plan and lead fun and educational activities
- Plan, organize and implement the youth program and activities
- Maintain program and participant records
- Assist in completing all necessary paperwork as assigned
- Responsible for attendance procedures
- Wear swimsuit and get in water to supervise participants
- Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and general public
- Responsible for the maintenance and safe and proper use of program supplies
- Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion
- Properly handle and dispose of biohazardous materials
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants
- Responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with the Youth Program Director regarding all situations concerning the program, its participants and the staff
- Communicate on a regular basis all progress, problems, concerns, and suggestions to the Program Director
- Communicate effectively with staff, participants and parents
- Attend all required meetings

Physiological Considerations
- The position requires a flexible schedule during evening and weekend hours on occasion
- Perform safe physical restraints and transfers
- Feed, diaper, and reposition participants
- Respond quickly and accurately
- Must be able to be physically active (e.g. extensive walking on fieldtrips, push wheelchairs, etc.)
- Conditions may be overwhelming or chaotic
