Summary
The Sports Official is responsible for officiating league games and tournaments at assigned youth and/or adult programs.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 13 years of age
- Knowledge of appropriate sports rules
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and participants
Supervision
The Sports Official reports directly to the Sports Official Assignor and Sports Coordinator.
Classification
- Non-Exempt, hourly
- Part-time 2 (not to exceed 19 hours per week)
Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District
- First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification
- Heads Up Concussion training
- Harassment prevention training
- Bloodborne pathogen training
- Recreation software system training
- Facility training
Essential Functions
- Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees.
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times.

- Mentor less experienced officials
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
- Communicate rulings and decisions clearly
- Be available to work nights and weekends
- Apply general rules to specific game situations
- Resolve conflicts effectively
- Pay attention to details at both close and far range
- Be willing to learn and adapt to new recreation activities and trends
- Attend all required meetings and workshops
- Maintain control of participants and games within the framework of the rules and District policies
- Effectively officiate games and tournaments
- Maintain a professional appearance while working
- Available to work weekends upon request
- Attend all required meetings
