Job Description Statement
Originate various types of mortgage loans to assist members and prospective members. Originators create and develop value-added relationships with members and other mortgage loan prospects. Originators interview applicants and analyze loan applications to determine if they meet program qualifying criteria. Originator makes appropriate loan recommendations, as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops realtor relationships and other referral sources through effective business development, networking, and calling efforts.
- Originates mortgage loans, by:
- Conducting interviews and taking applications;
- Analyzing applicant information and determining borrower’s credit worthiness;
- Requesting additional information/documents, if needed, to complete credit profile;
- Preparing loan application for approval with Mortgage Loan Committee (MLC) or for secondary market lender;
- Delivering approved loan file to processing department; and
- Monitoring the progress of processing and assist processing department when, and if, needed to close the loan.
- Works closely with the Mortgage Operations department, attorneys, realtors, and other third parties involved with the mortgage loan transaction, from beginning to end, to ensure a timely closing.
- Maintains an active role in community and business development activities.
- Coordinates and plans marketing functions and ideas to develop business and meet production expectations.
- Reviews and provides input on all brochures and flyers for accuracy, design, and appropriateness.
- Understands and utilizes every opportunity to cross-sell other Champion Credit Union products and services that maximizes the member experience and relationship.
- Participates in continuing education to stay current on lending programs (i.e. secondary market interest rates and fees), policies, procedures and federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Contributes by working together as a team and an employee to help Champion Credit Union, and its members, reach its goals and objectives.
- Maintains member confidence and protects credit union operations by keeping information confidential.
- Works toward achieving production goals with high-quality loans as established by Champion Credit Union.
- Complies with all governing regulations, specifically the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), OFAC and the Patriot Act requirements. Understands and complies with all state and federal regulations and laws.
- Performs any and all duties assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Assigns, monitors, and supervises the workload of the Mortgage Loan Associate to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of work.
Qualifications
Required Performance Skills/Abilities
- Ability to negotiate rates and fees with realtors and borrowers.
- Ability to work in a goal-oriented environment.
- Must be able to meet potential and existing borrowers beyond normal working hours and on weekends, as necessary.
- Effective communicator and presentation skills.
- Ability to operate computers and loan applications/software.
Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous mortgage banking experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Ability to obtain NMLS Certification/Registration within a reasonable amount of time.
