Job Description - Maintenance Assistant:

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Assistant’s major responsibilities are, but not limited to:

1. Quality Objective – To assure that all machinery is operable when needed by performing planned / preventive maintenance as required

2. Function -

A. Assist the Maintenance Manager with the maintenance support function for all manufacturing machines, support equipment, power tools, plant facilities power systems

B. Operate within budget constraints as established each year; manage and control the utilization of tools and supplies to prevent theft, abuse, waste and loss

C. Have good working knowledge of welding and electrical code requirements; schedule and promote technical training offered by equipment supplies and technical schools

D. Develop and maintain a good line of communication between plant workers and yourself, and between you and the fellow employees to encourage teamwork throughout the company

3. General duties and responsibilities -

Maintenance and production support

A. Assist the Maintenance Manager in developing and conducting an effective and thorough maintenance program which includes but is not limited to the following elements:

a. Preventative Maintenance (PM) checklist system

b. Schedule PM Inspections

c. Equipment lubrication schedule

d. Maintenance work order system

e. Equipment/system data file

f. Parts order control system

g. Tool and equipment control

h. Spare parts inventory system

B. Motivate personnel to maintain the plant in a clean and clutter-free manner; every effort must be taken to include housekeeping into every maintenance and repair action. When planning an equipment modification, simplification of housekeeping tasks must be given adequate consideration

C. Assist in the manufacturing of product as production so calls

Quality control

A. Develop a maintenance repair follow up inspection system to ensure that all repairs are complete thus avoiding repeat repairs and adjustments

4. Safety and security -

A. Enforce all company safety policies and encourage safe work habits

B. Inspect work areas and equipment for safety hazards and correct or report all deficiencies

C. Keep work areas free of clutter and tools; good housekeeping habits must be continuously emphasized and enforced

D. Maintain all assigned hand tools and equipment and be responsible for their loss and/or abuse

E. Be responsible for all equipment and supplies within the plant to guard against damage and theft

5. Communication -

A. Develop and maintain a working relationship among supervisors and team members that enhances teamwork, motivation and high morale

B. Keep the plant manager informed as to personnel needs that would result in higher productivity

6. Physical requirements -

A. Position requires climbing, standing or bending for long periods of time

B. Ability to move about plant and yard facilities in a safe and efficient manner

C. Requires use of a telephone

D. Lift tools, equipment, or parts

E. Lift and maneuver precast molds for repair

F. Handle, operate, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls

G. Control tools and equipment

H. Discern between colors

I. Must be able to read and understand training manuals, operating procedures, diagrams, and blueprints

J. Occasionally lift and push 100 pounds (max) and pull 92 pounds (max)
