What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Parent Educator, Parents as Teachers - Full-time (Tues-Sat) position at Champions for Children, Inc.?
Position Summary: This is a supervisor level position responsible for leadership and direct oversight for a team of five Parent Educators who support parents and caregivers in gaining the knowledge and skills required to raise emotionally, psychologically, and physically healthy children through the delivery of evidence-based parent-child activities to improve a child’s school readiness, literacy, health, and development of young children. This position reports to the Program Director. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based home visiting program that promotes healthy development, school readiness, support for the parent-child relationship, and family well-being for children and families, prenatal through kindergarten.
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Direct supervision, support, and training of assigned Parent Educators including individual reflective supervision, assisting with staff meetings & trainings, and completion of performance evaluations.
- Provides an orientation process for new Parent Educators that begins with hiring and continues throughout the first year.
- Observes Parent Educators delivering services, in home and group connection, within 6 months after training and then at least annually thereafter, providing verbal and written feedback.
- Documents reflective supervision with each Parent Educator that assists and supports staff with the delivery of high-quality program services that meets the Parents as Teachers Essential Requirements.
- Documents review of participant records according to program protocols to monitor service documentation, data collection and reporting.
- Completes a 90 day and annual performance evaluation of each Parent Educator, including written professional development goals.
- Participants recruitment process for assigned PAT positions, including application screening, interviewing, and reference checking.
- Completes accurate and timely data collection to complete reporting requirements and support program’s compliance to contract, accreditation, agency requirements and standards for the Parents as Teachers Blue Ribbon Affiliate status.
- Cultivates and manages collaborative relationships with family serving agencies. This may include presentations and participation with community events and special projects and attending meetings as a representative of the Program Director or agency.
- Supports the agency’s performance and quality improvement processes including PAT model fidelity standards.
- Attends staff meetings, on-going in-service training, and reflective supervision as required. (Minimum of two hours per month of individual supervision and two hours a month with PAT leadership team)
- Participates on appropriate agency, department, and community planning teams.
- Performs duties as assigned and needed. which include but are not limited to quality assurance correspondence, monitoring Parent Educator Compliance with home visiting, documentation, and outcomes, assist with growth and development of Parent Educator through goal setting and action plans, and assisting with the family referral process.
Requirements:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in child development, social work, early childhood education or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with families. Some evidence-based home visiting model experience and supervision experience preferred.
- Current certification in the Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation Curriculum preferred. Will consider verified certification within the past five years in PAT or another evidence-based home visiting model.
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills (e.g., nonjudgmental, reflective, empathic, patient, tactful)
- Strong organizational and record keeping skills as well as data entry.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Proficiency in of Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint; and experience working in an online data management system (such as Penelope, Visit Tracker)
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, kneel, bend, reach, and manipulate objects; move materials up to 10 pounds on a regular basis; infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Must be flexible with working hours (evening and weekend hours may be needed).
- Must be sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the population that Champions for Children serves.
- Must have a reliable car, active auto insurance, and valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must be able to successfully complete a Florida level 2 criminal background clearance, motor vehicle records check and drug screening.
