Description
Head Start is a federally-funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant people, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports.
As Classroom Assistant, you will support the classroom teaching team and provide direct care to a child(ren) who needs
additional support in the classroom as determined. This role involves assisting with daily activities, providing active
supervision, attending child-specific meetings, and completing specialized or required training. This is a 30 hour per week position.

Requirements
The Classroom Assistant shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age, able to comprehend basic written format, and meet at least one (1) of the following qualifications: Has at least a high school diploma OR has completed a GED and completes the Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals’ course or the Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate within the first twelve (12) months of employment; OR Has at least a high school diploma OR has completed a GED and a three (3) college credit course in child or human development or in school-age care and education within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
Knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate early childhood practice, child behavior management, and a team approach in early education settings. Previous experience working with children with special health needs is preferred. A commitment to social justice, to working with families with limited resources, and to maintaining client confidentiality is necessary. Ability to lift and carry the child as needed. Must have a reliable means of transportation and a willingness to travel within the CVOEO service area. Ability to uphold safety standards.
