The Opportunity

CZ Biohub NY is looking to recruit an outstanding scientist for the position of Group Leader (equivalent to a Principal Investigator title within the CZ Biohub Network) to lead our Immune Cell Tropism Research Group.

As a Group Leader, you will be responsible for recruiting and overseeing an outstanding team of scientists dedicated to pioneering novel, influential studies to determine mechanisms that determine tissue specificity in immune cell trafficking and bio-engineering approaches to change immune cell tropism on demand. Your research will align with the Biohub's mission to unravel the complexities of immune cell mechanisms and harness their functionalities to detect anomalies and diseases. Specific research areas of interest include programming immune cells to traffic to specific organs/tissues, designing synthetic receptors to enhance immune cell recognition of organ-specific physiologic and pathologic signals, creating co-culture organoid models to study cell-cell communication mechanisms in vitro, applying synthetic biology to further our understanding of tissue development principles, and exploring the mechanisms that govern immune cell interaction with other cells. The ultimate aim is to develop innovative technologies to engineer immune cell trafficking to specific organs on demand, paving the way for actionable diagnostics and effective therapies.

For consideration, applicants should submit C.V., research statement, and 3 letters of recommendations.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and actively participate in an innovative, vigorous, and collaborative research program, aligned with the mission of CZ Biohub NY, dedicated to advancing the state of the art in elucidating and reprogramming the mechanisms that drive immune cell trafficking to specific organs and tissues, resulting in compelling record of scientific innovation, as demonstrated by publications and intellectual property
  • Play a key role in our collaborative efforts to engineer immune cells to detect, prevent, and cure organ-specific diseased states by leveraging your expertise in immune cell organotropism and cell adhesion mechanisms
  • Develop a transformative research vision and providing technical guidance and mentorship to team members
  • Engage with colleagues throughout the Biohub to uphold our values of scholarly excellence, innovation, open communication, hands-on collaboration, partnership, and opportunity
  • Communicate progress and results with colleagues and the leadership team
  • Publish and disseminate impactful findings and the products of your research as preprints (medRxiv, bioRxiv) and/or software repositories (e.g., GitHub)
  • Collaborate with the CZ Biohub team to patent and license technologies resulting from your research

What You'll Bring

Essential –

  • PhD or MD with relevant research experience
  • A minimum of 5 years post-doctoral experience focused on immune cell organotropism
  • Demonstrated publication track record in top tier journals on topics related to the scientific goals of this position
  • Demonstrated leadership, track record of innovation, and ability to work collaboratively
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience is a plus but not required for early-career applicants, but expected for more senior candidates
  • Demonstrating a creative vision to establish a highly innovative and impactful research program
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to open science and highly aligned with the mission and values of CZ Biohub values
