Behavior Specialist Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Behavior Specialist to join our award-winning team. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing positive behavior support programs in schools, working with challenging behaviors, and responding to crisis situations.
- Implement proactive strategies to address challenging behaviors and de-escalate students using CPI strategies, behavioral contracts, and interventions documented in student's behavioral intervention plan, if applicable.
- Develop and implement individual, group, or systems-level interventions to promote positive academic, social/emotional, behavioral, and independent outcomes.
- Model these strategies for all staff, maintain and update records related to the development and implementation of student behavior strategies (SBS) or BIPs, and collect and chart behavioral data for progress monitoring.
- Provide support to teachers and classroom staff in monitoring individual student behavior and class-wide behavior management systems.
- Apply principles of applied behavior analysis in classroom settings under the direction of a board-certified behavior analyst to improve student outcomes and prevent/disruptive behaviors.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the classroom teacher with preparation and implementation of learning activities, provide student instruction, supervise students, and perform other school or classroom activities as assigned.
- Act as a first responder to crisis situations to allow for instruction and school operations to continue.
- Complete required documentation and reports, including the documentation of incidents in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in team/clinical meetings, supervision meetings, all-staff meetings, teacher meetings, annual planning and action teams as directed.
- Attend trainings designed to increase knowledge of current behavioral principles, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with the supervision of students during school activities, provide supervision and support to students during transportation to and from school in district-operated or school-operated vehicles, and travel to/from multiple site locations during the school day to support classrooms when requested by the Program Director.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
