Job Description: As a Special Education Teacher at ChanceLight, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and implementing instructional processes for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). You will work in a collaborative environment to deliver instruction, implement curriculum materials and educational software, and develop daily lesson plans that reflect state and school requirements as well as the physical, emotional, and educational needs of each learner.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a supportive environment for students, parents, center staff, and administrative personnel.
- Establish a climate that promotes a firm, fair, and respectful classroom environment, focusing on social development and group responsibility by modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors outlined in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.
- Implement established school-wide and classroom PBIS programs, reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequences.
- Record student progress/records, maintain student files, and prepare reports on students and activities.
- Provide direct subject-based instruction and/or collaborate/co-teach curricular subjects as required in IEPs.
- Accommodate or modify curriculum and assist with differentiated instruction for students as well as staff.
- Use various instructional strategies and resources to respond to diverse needs and interests of students, including prescribed educational software and intervention curriculum.
- Act as case manager to special education students, updating IEPs and goals as needed.
- Maintain the classroom, furniture, and supplies in a neat and orderly condition according to procedure.
- Stay up-to-date with research-based practices and developments in the subject area.
- Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
