The Council Rock School District is seeking exemplary, student-centered applicants for the position of High School Principal for Council Rock South High School.  Council Rock High School South is located in Holland, PA and encompasses students 1974 in grades 9 through 12, and a staff of approximately 220 staff members. The Council Rock School District serves approximately 10,500 students in two high schools, two middle schools and ten elementary schools with 1,360 employees in our 17 facilities.  This is an outstanding opportunity for an accomplished and motivated administrator with a strong understanding of secondary philosophies and principles.  Responsibilities will include serving as lead learner, overall building management, and a lead role in the continual development of our secondary program. Qualifications for this position include PA K-12 Principal or PA Secondary Principal Certification. Administrative Experience at the secondary level, proven track record of instructional leadership, and/or K-12 building administration is required. Also required are excellent organizational, instructional, public relations, communication and supportive leadership skills; demonstrated experience and extensive knowledge of highly-effective secondary programs.  A full job description can be viewed below.

Job Description

 

POSITION SUMMARYThe Secondary principal is responsible for providing the leadership and vision that results in a quality education program for all students.  Also responsible for the supervision of all teaching, clerical and service staff members.  Maintains a close relationship with the leadership team of the district and the Superintendent to assure that the programs and policies of the School Board are carried out in an efficient and uniform manner.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 Curriculum Development, Supervision and Evaluation

  • Knows District and school curriculum; ensures effective teaching of the curriculum; helps staff use curriculum resources.
  • Participates in and leads curriculum development activities commensurate with school and district goals.
  • Utilizes appropriate school and community personnel in evaluating curriculum.
  • Regularly uses the results of various forms of student assessments to identify problems and implement program improvements.

 

Student Assessment and Monitoring

  • Systematically assesses and monitors students and provides meaningful information to parents and others regarding student progress.
  • Provides meaningful information to parents and others regarding student progress.
  • Works with Special Services Staff to systematically identify and respond to at-risk students; approves referrals to appropriate community agencies when needed.

 

Establishing an Effective Workplace

  • Implements a code of conduct that is fair and promotes student wellness, student learning and respect for self and others.
  • Provides for adequate supervision and acceptable student behavior at all school sanctioned or sponsored activities.
  • Orients new teachers to school programs and available resources.

                                              

Professional Development

  • In cooperation with the Director of Secondary Education and the Office of Staff Development identifies, plans and implements staff development programs in accordance with assessed needs.
  • Plans and implements individualized instructional improvement programs when necessary.
  • Provides opportunities for teachers to share and demonstrate successful practices.
  • Provides space, time, consultants and other assistance for teachers to develop new or special teaching techniques and instructional materials.
  • Develops skills through participation in professional activities and organizations.

 

Building Management, Record Keeping and Financial Management

  • Handles routine administrative matters effectively.
  • Anticipates future building and equipment needs, plans appropriate activities.
  • Establishes and maintains rules and procedures for student and staff safety.
  • Provides a safe, secure and orderly learning environment
  • Prepares accurate budgets and effectively monitors expenditures.
  • Prepares required district reports accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintains accurate personnel, student and fiscal records.

 

Management/Leadership Practices

  • Evaluates and recommends the assignment, transfer, promotion, or dismissal or any employee under his/her full time supervision. Cooperates in the evaluation of those under his/her part-time supervision. Aids in the evaluation of other employees' performance as directed.
  • Writes thorough, defensible, and constructive evaluation reports to achieve a continuous improvement mindset in his staff.
  • Demonstrates objectivity in personnel assessment and uses every opportunity to coach employees to improve their performance.
  • Makes personnel assignments based on knowledge of employee's ability, qualifications, past performance and school needs.
  • Recognizes and responds immediately and constructively to border line performance and recommends removal of unsatisfactory personnel.
  • Effectively delegates decision making and problem solving to appropriate personnel. Creates a positive work climate in which every employee feels fully utilized and is encouraged to contribute to his/her full potential.
  • Maintains high visibility in the school.
  • Promotes a climate that balances openness and control.
  • Serves as a role model for expected staff behavior.
  • Effectively copes with crises and emergencies.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director of K-12 Education.

  • Listens and responds appropriate to staff, student and community concerns.
  • Respects differences of opinion and fosters open communication among staff.
  • Develops communications that reflect and support management team decisions and school board policies.
  • Speaks and writes effectively.
  • Keeps the appropriate central office administrators informed of school activities and problems.
  • Communicates and works with central office, supervisory personnel, and other principals to share ideas, problems, expertise and personnel.
  • Facilitates the development of human relations skills among staff.

STATUS AND SCOPE

Reports to the Director of Secondary Education 7-12. Must possess strong communication for both students, staff and parents.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree required along with five years of successful teaching experience.
  • Appropriate Pennsylvania Elementary and/or Secondary Principal's Certificate, or eligibility to obtain one.
