Summary
The Shift Lead is a working position, specifically an advanced CNC machinist that can perform at full autonomy, running complex set-ups using various Milling machines, while also providing training. This individual assists with managing nonsupervisory work for multiple cell units or functional work areas. Assist Operations Manager with training, labor edits, performance evaluations, and reviews. Supports the Operations Manager and other team management in order to achieve defined goals of productivity, quality, delivery, lean 5s, and safety. Manages the shift in the absence of the Operations Manager.
Hours: Monday - Thursday, 5:00am to 3:30pm

Requirements
Required Skills and Experience (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge, skills, and abilities).
- Minimum 6 years of CNC Milling Machining experience.
- Advanced skill in performing complex set-ups and making offsets/work coordinates as needed.
- Lead shift production activities and coordinate with Cell Leaders, including labor, materials, tools, and equipment, to meet the daily production schedule.
- Ensures the shift teams comply with work instructions, standardized work, policies, and procedures. Communicate changes to Cell Leaders or shift staff as they occur.
- Train employees with on-the-job, safety, policies and procedures. Coordinate position rotations and cross-training with Cell Leads and Operations Manager. Consistently provides instruction to operators to develop skills. Give timely appropriate feedback on performance; reinforce efforts and progress. Assist Operations Manager with performance evaluations and reviews.
- Monitor and report daily defects, scrap, and lost time, etc.
- Assist Operations Manager with managing employee time off and labor edits.
- Monitors quality work-pieces are produced in cell units or functional areas. Communicates non-conformance with Production Supervisor, engineering, and quality.
- Report all Bill of Material and specification discrepancies to the Production Supervisor.
- Prioritize work and expedites to ensure productivity goals are met and work orders are completed on time. Strives to increase productivity.
- Monitors shift metrics. Ensure cell leaders maintain metric documentation daily.
- Coordinate repairs and TPM/PM schedules with Operations Manager or Maintenance team.
- Lead shift meetings and attend company staff meetings.
- May assist with Lean initiatives eliminating wastes including overproduction, defects, transportation, waiting, inventory, motion, and over-processing for shift cells or functional areas.
- Troubleshoot and develop Root Cause Corrective Action for discrepant products. Assist with resolving Corrective Action System Requests and Preventative Action Requests.
- May assist with the coordination and monitoring of New Product Introduction activities and rework.
- Perform safety audits. Ensure shift employees maintain an organized, clean, and safe environment and maintain 5 “S” standards. Ensure employees comply with safety rules including Personal Protective Equipment and OSHA standards. Address safety issues with employees or Operations Manager.
- Performs Operations Manager duties in his/her absence.
- Work in other production position(s) as required.
- CNC Machine Technology or related certification is preferred.
- Lead or Supervisory Certificate.
- 10 hour General Industry OSHA certificate.
- Experience working in the Aerospace, Defense or other highly regulated industry
