ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Summary / Objective :

The Regional Aggregates General Manager will manage, direct, and implement operations and sales strategies for an assigned region.

Essential Functions :

  • Oversight and participation of aggregate mining, production and sales across a region.
  • Advise the VPGM of Aggregate Operations in strategic planning, acquisitions, goal setting, budgeting, capital expenditure planning and project management.
  • Support and enforce all company safety programs. Cooperate with the company Safety Manager and continually ensure that all company operations and activities are performed in a consistently safe manner.
  • Strengthen and maintain a high morale and team concept throughout the Region through the implementation and utilization of sound leadership and management principles, in addition to promoting and employing total quality principles to achieve a more efficient and quality workplace
  • Hire, train, develop, and motivate employees toward accomplishing company goals and objectives; perform performance appraisals as required; respond in a timely manner to employee concerns and / or complaints; and keep personnel records accurate and current.
  • Prepare operation budgets and sales forecasts. Calculate indirect maintenance costs for the company, implementing procedures to ensure effective control over all costs within the region.
  • Ensure that all company operations are in strict compliance with county, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the environment.
  • Adhere to all MSHA regulations and ensure that all company operations are in compliance with all related state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure that all vehicles and equipment continually remain in safe and efficient operating conditions, as well as kept in a clean, presentable condition. Work with the operators and the Maintenance Divisions to make sure installations, preventative maintenance, regular inspections, and major repairs are planned and executed within the proper time and best cost.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the purchasing, leasing, or rental of all vehicles and equipment.
  • Respond in a timely and courteous manner to all concerns and complaints from residents living near company operations.
  • Cooperate with the Human Resources Department in the implementation of all company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in public relations with customers, organizations, and business contacts related to the industry as necessary.
  • Educate oneself continually and remain current on industry and training issues by benchmarking regularly with other companies and communicating regularly with the Training Department and other members of the industry involved with process improvement and training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions :

  • Volunteer and participate in company events.
  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS

    Work Environment :

  • Work time will be split between indoors / office and outdoors / field.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes / offensive smells.
  • Exposure to chemicals such as fuel, grease, and oil.
  • Close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level will be moderate.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Lift a maximum weight of 100 lbs., repetitively lift approximately 50 lbs., carry 50 lbs., reach overhead, and reach away from the body.
  • Sit 4 hours per day, stand 2 hours per day, walk 2 hours per day, climb 2 hours per day, kneel 1 hour per day, and squat the other 1 hour per day.
  • Experience :

  • 7 years’ experience in the aggregates, mining, or related industry.
  • 7 years’ managerial or supervisory experience.
  • 4 years’ experience in plant maintenance.
  • 4 years’ experience in sales and budget planning.
  • Special Skills :

  • Written communication, verbal communication, and basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to use a computer and iPad, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to use the company dispatching system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to conduct advanced statistics.
  • Must have proven effective leadership, training, and motivation skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Certifications :

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • MSHA Trainer.
  • CPR / First Aid.
  • Industry-Related Experience or Skills :

  • Must have knowledge of Aggregate mining, heavy equipment, construction, maintenance, and the principles of mass excavation, earthwork, and trucking.
  • A thorough understanding of the maintenance of Aggregate plants and equipment.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of OSHA, MOSH, MSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies and laws.
  • Education Required : College / Undergrad

    Preferred Education : Mining Engineering / MBA

    Bilingual in Spanish Preferred : No
