As the premier digital scripted content creation studio, we inspire millions globally by delivering powerful, transformative storytelling. To help us grow, we are seeking a visionary Head of Production to cost effectively scale our production capabilities and lead our largest team. We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial Head of Production to oversee our entire production process, from pre-production through post-production. This senior role demands a strategic leader with a proven track record of producing high-quality creative content while managing costs and accelerating production timelines. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in all facets of production, and be adept at leveraging tools, offshoring, software, and innovative processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness at scale. We are looking for a mindset of doing things in new ways and challenging conventional wisdom.
HOW YOU’LL SPEND YOUR TIME:
- Lead and optimize operations across pre-production (breakdowns, scheduling, casting, wardrobe, props, set decoration, makeup, bookings), production (directors, crews, production management, actor management, equipment, facilities, locations), and post-production (editing, color grading, vfx, sound design, dubbing) ensuring project deadlines and budget requirements are met.
- Drive continuous improvement in production quality, reduce costs, and shorten time to market using state-of-the-art production technologies, methodologies, outsourcing, and out-of-the-box thinking.
- Improve the efficiency of project management of pre-production, production and post production.
- Monitor and analyze production metrics, budgets and performance data to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous optimization of production processes.
- Review budgets, schedules, timelines and cost tracking reports, while providing feedback on financial viability and risks.
- Forecast, track and manage overall content budget; collaborate with Finance to create and maintain systems to track costs and payroll for high-volume video production, and to project overall department spend.
- Manage an ever-changing content posting schedule with input from pre-production, production, post-production, creative, data and social to ensure productions can meet delivery deadlines.
- Allocate crews to different video productions and schedule studio facilities across productions.
- Facilitate the scaling of all facilities, processes, teams, security and production capabilities to be able to grow with the company.
- Design and implement the best organization and team for scaling globally. Build and review comprehensive staffing plans ensuring optimal resource allocation and project success; manage capacity and space planning.
- Establish and enforce rigorous quality control processes in each department to maintain the highest standards of production quality and external partner satisfaction.
- Manage and expand relationships with key industry partners, including outsourcing production companies, technology providers, and freelance talent pools.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of staff across all departments, ensuring high performance and efficiency with review metrics and processes.
- Develop and implement robust production, facilities and operations policies and protocols to maximize productivity and ensure consistency across various projects.
- Maintain up to date safety protocols and procedures across production, operations and facilities, pro-actively assessing and mitigating risk.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in digital media production to inform decision-making and maintain our competitive edge.
- Collaborate closely with other department heads to align production objectives with overall company goals.
- Work closely with HR for best practices regarding payroll, on-boarding/off-boarding, recruiting, staff development and retention.
WHAT YOU HAVE:
- Minimum of 10 years in production management, with significant senior leadership experience in a high-volume, micro-budget environment; experience working in low-budget reality, indie films or digital production a plus.
- Ability to dive into the details while maintaining a strategic view of overall company goals.
- Deep expertise in all phases of film and video production, including technical knowledge of production equipment and software.
- Ability to remain calm and prioritize effectively while managing large teams and multiple, simultaneous, daily shoots, with up to eight crews, in a high volume, demanding, fast paced and entrepreneurial environment.
- Flexibility to work with customized systems that automate processes in order to meet the high volume video production of the company.
- Must be able to work efficiently across all levels of management, talent, crew and staff; navigate employee relations including conflict resolution.
- Adept at anticipating potential issues, identifying problems, recommending and implementing solutions.
- Strong financial acumen, with a proven track record of reducing costs while enhancing production quality; adept at working with and maximizing small budgets.
- Proficiency in project management tools, production software, and digital content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, G-suite, Monday etc.).
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and business needs, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Knowledge of the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in media production.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Familiarity with a company with chat based communication (vs. email).
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Able to communicate concisely and adept at responding quickly to messages in chat while also managing and staying on top of tasks discussed in multiple, simultaneous chat groups (rather than over email), with the expectation of responding to communication after hours, on weekends and during holidays.
- Ability to work in person five days a week in the offices and studios of Burbank.

The Head of Production reports to the CEO.

Directs are Sr. Manager of Production Operations, Sr. Manager of Production, Sr. Manager of Post Production. The global team is approximately 75 and growing.
WHERE IT ALL GOES DOWN:
On location in Burbank, CA
WHEN THE MAGIC HAPPENS:
Five days a week in the offices and studios of Burbank. Full time with weekends on-call, will be discussed during interview.
