JOB SUMMARY:
The Forklift Operator position is responsible for all activities associated with the movement and handling of materials related to the yard/shipping and warehouse department but not to exclude the production department. Responsible for computer system update transactions which account for all physical movement, consumption, and production of inventory. Responsible for physical counts of designated inventory items cycle counts as defined and instructed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the moving and storage of finished goods and raw materials, as well as loading product per customer orders on to trucks.
- Remove finished goods and raw materials from or to production lines and locations in the warehouse.
- Assist in shipping, receiving as needed.
- Safely operate all material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet movers
- Must maintain yard in an organized and neat manner with good skids, legible labels and banded and wrapped skids.
- Scan and move finished goods one pallet at a time from Inbound location to specified zones in Yard location. No yard storage in the designated staging areas by the dock
- Skids stored in yard must be neatly and safely stacked with enough space between rows to enable label visibility for cycle counting and product identification. Like items must be consolidated every day
- Move pallets quickly and efficiently within the yard.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Good understanding of forklift/pallet mover operation and all safety procedures
- Good understanding of material handling within a yard/shipping and warehouse
ABILITY TO/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- Equipment emergency stops.
- Obtain and maintain forklift operator certification.
- Proper handling and inspection of forklifts
- Must understand and follow all departmental safety rules.
- Proper use of all safety equipment: safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest/uniform
- Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- ISO sections pertaining to the position.
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Sit down forklift.
- Hand tools, power tools, pallet strapping equipment.
- Scanners
- Box cutters
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Have at least one year of experience working in a warehouse, manufacturing, or production facility.
- Have at least one year of forklift experience and forklift certification.
- Logistics or supply chain background preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift up to 30 / 50 pounds.
- Capacity to work overtime as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands and working conditions requirement indicated below are examples of the demands that must be performed in carrying out the essential job functions.
Physical Demands: Standing, sitting and walking (up to continuously); bend/stoop, twist neck and torso (frequently); reach, hold, grasp, push, pull, lift/carry raw material, finished product, tools and machinery up to 30 / 50 pounds (frequently); use seeing, hearing, and speaking.
Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures.
