Transportation Rider / MonitorDepartment / School : Support Operations Center Reports to : Transportation Director Payment Rate : According to the Classified Pay Scale Exemption Status : Non-ExemptPrimary Purpose : The job of the Van Driver is to provide a clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure that students are transported safely to and from school. The Van Driver is responsible for maintaining proper records and documentation, assist student lodading, unloading and seading arrangements as required and ensure that students board the proper vehicle and exit the vehicle at the proper stop. To accomplish these tasks, the Van Driver must work closely with the staff and administration of U.S.D. No. 413.Position Details : Currrent opening 6 : 00 AM - 8 : 00 AM and 2 : 00 PM - 4 : 00 PM with potential trips in between. Qualifications : High School Diploma or Equivalent. Health and inoculation certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made). Desire to continue career improvement. Meet all state requirements for van drivers including defensive driving, CPR and first aid certification. At least one year's experience in driving some type of motor vehicle (which may be a private automobile), including experience throughout each of the four seasons. Successfully complete behind-the-wheel training. Complete state-required physical examination for van drivers (after employment offer is made). Essential Functions & General Responsibilities : Provide clean, afe, and reliable transportation to ensure that students enjoy the full advantage of school district programs and activities. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines. Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery related to specific job duties. Support the value of an education. Support the philosophy and mission of USD #413. Make relationships with students the number one priority. Assist, greet and direct students as they enter and exit the vehicle. Assist with seat belts / restraints as needed. Develop relationships with students to provide for comfort and security. Be in constant contact with and observation of students. Use cell phones only for emergency purposes or contacting parents / guardians. Be familiar with procedures for evacuations and assist with evacuations. Help maintain proper noise control. Assist in making sure students remain seated properly (facing the correct way) with seat belts / restraints (when applicable). Be familiar with and reinforce rules. Apply proper discipline measures for students not following directions. Assist in monitoring students to make sure they are not eating or drinking in the vehicle. Assist in making sure the aisle is always clear of objects and / or people. Assist in making sure students get out at the correct stops and are released to proper parents / guardians if applicable. Carry through with any additional rules requested by the driver or administration. Be familiar with and enforce bus rules as set forth in USD 413's handbooks. Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements : Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
