Chaparral is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of our Commercial Business Group. The Controller will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and implement financial policies and controls. This is an on-site position requiring hands-on management and collaboration with our operations and leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the group’s accounting operations, including establishing and enforcing financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Perform monthly close processes and financial statement presentation.
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with US GAAP standards.
- Manage and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements.
- Act as the primary point of contact for audits, ensuring thorough preparation and coordination.
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and purchase orders, expense reports and cash control processes and accounts receivable, including billings and cash receipt applications.
- Collaborate with operations departments to provide financial insights and support business objectives.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- 5–7 years’ experience of proven experience as a Controller or similar role, ideally within the construction or related industry.
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and financial tools, with advanced Excel skills. Experience with Vista accounting software preferred
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, on-site environment.
