Job Summary:

The Lead Small Animal Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) plays a critical role in overseeing daily clinical operations, ensuring quality patient care, and supporting the veterinary team. This leadership position is responsible for mentoring and supervising veterinary technicians and assistants, maintaining medical protocols, and fostering a positive, collaborative team environment. The ideal candidate is a skilled technician with a passion for small animal medicine and proven leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Duties:

  • Perform high-level veterinary technician skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia induction and monitoring, dental cleanings, radiography, and laboratory diagnostics
  • Assist in surgical procedures, emergency care, and restraint of small animals
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in compliance with clinic protocols

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Lead, train, and mentor veterinary technicians and assistants
  • Schedule, delegate, and monitor daily technician workflow
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback and coaching
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and infection control practices

Client & Team Communication:

  • Serve as a liaison between the veterinary team and clients, providing compassionate education and clear instructions regarding pet care
  • Foster a supportive, team-oriented environment and resolve conflicts when necessary
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to clinic policy and procedural improvements

Operational Support:

  • Oversee inventory management and equipment maintenance in the treatment and surgery areas
  • Help implement and maintain hospital protocols and compliance.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new technical staff

Qualifications:

  • Current Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) license in Arizona
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a small animal practice; leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in anesthesia monitoring, surgical prep, radiology, and laboratory procedures

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced clinical environment requiring standing, lifting, and handling animals (up to 75 lbs)
  • May involve exposure to allergens, zoonotic diseases, and aggressive animals
  • Schedule includes weekdays and some Saturdays

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
