Qualifications:

N.C. teacher certification in EC General Curriculum; Previous experience as an elementary school EC teacher, specifically with behavior support preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • B.A/B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching

  • NC Teaching license in EC General Curriculum

  • Prefer certification in de-escalation for educators who directly intervene in crisis situations, teaching staff de-escalation techniques as well as restrictive and nonrestrictive interventions (such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention)

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing

  • Must have proven and continued ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis

  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program

  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology

  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state.

Job Goal:

To use a collaborative problem-solving approach to design individualized social, emotional, and behavioral instruction for students with behaviors that significantly interfere with their ability to access learning at their base school.  

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning for students with disabilities following general education curriculum, IEP goals and Social-Emotional Learning across multiple grade levels. 

  2. Collaborate with general education teachers in order to develop and administer assessments that allow for progress monitoring of general education standards.  

  3. Develop assessments (formative and summative) that allow for progress monitoring of IEP and BIP goals.

  4. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials, technology and equipment.

  5. Develop data based Individualized Education Plans and other special education required paperwork. Schedule, lead and/or participate in parent conferences/IEP meetings. To include general understanding of special education policies, processes and procedures. 

  6. Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development to include data on all  IEP and BIP goals.

  7. Reflect on progress monitoring of individual students and use quantitative and qualitative data to adjust teaching strategies and behavior interventions.

  8. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations. Prepare required reports, to include progress reports on students.

  9. Promote positive relationships in interactions with all students and working in an equitable and culturally responsible manner.

  10.  Manage student behavior in the classroom and throughout the school by establishing and implementing Behavior Interventions Plans (BIP)  with school team members.

  11. Use deescalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors and teach students appropriate replacement behaviors in accordance with their BIPs

  12. Collaborate with the school team to promote an accountable, restorative and equitable approach to discipline and student support which may include a classroom behavior management system.  

  13. Collaborate and problem-solving assisting parents with developing strategies for home

  14. Using data, develop short- and long-term plans based on individual student academic, behavioral, and social emotional needs with the goal of increasing a student’s inclusion within the general education setting. 

  15. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities in special education and general education settings as well as community based settings.

  16. Direct and supervise teacher assistants or other instructional staff in supporting and meeting the needs of students with disabilities.

  17. Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.

  18. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

  19. Effectively collaborate and communicate with general educators to meet the social, emotional, behavioral and academic needs of the students with disabilities. 

  20. Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.

  21. Participate in appropriate professional activities/professional development.

  22. Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:

Ten-month year.  Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
