Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning for students with disabilities following general education curriculum, IEP goals and Social-Emotional Learning across multiple grade levels.
Collaborate with general education teachers in order to develop and administer assessments that allow for progress monitoring of general education standards.
Develop assessments (formative and summative) that allow for progress monitoring of IEP and BIP goals.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials, technology and equipment.
Develop data based Individualized Education Plans and other special education required paperwork. Schedule, lead and/or participate in parent conferences/IEP meetings. To include general understanding of special education policies, processes and procedures.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development to include data on all IEP and BIP goals.
Reflect on progress monitoring of individual students and use quantitative and qualitative data to adjust teaching strategies and behavior interventions.
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations. Prepare required reports, to include progress reports on students.
Promote positive relationships in interactions with all students and working in an equitable and culturally responsible manner.
Manage student behavior in the classroom and throughout the school by establishing and implementing Behavior Interventions Plans (BIP) with school team members.
Use deescalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors and teach students appropriate replacement behaviors in accordance with their BIPs
Collaborate with the school team to promote an accountable, restorative and equitable approach to discipline and student support which may include a classroom behavior management system.
Collaborate and problem-solving assisting parents with developing strategies for home
Using data, develop short- and long-term plans based on individual student academic, behavioral, and social emotional needs with the goal of increasing a student’s inclusion within the general education setting.
Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities in special education and general education settings as well as community based settings.
Direct and supervise teacher assistants or other instructional staff in supporting and meeting the needs of students with disabilities.
Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Effectively collaborate and communicate with general educators to meet the social, emotional, behavioral and academic needs of the students with disabilities.
Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
Participate in appropriate professional activities/professional development.
