Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the Applied Agricultural Engineering (Agriculture Mechanics) program for the high school campus as part of a multiple-teacher agriculture department. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in the workforce and society.
Chapel Hill I.S.D. is looking to fill an agriculture mechanics position within a strong successful agricultural program that is valued and supported by the district and community.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Must be a college graduate holding a B.S. degree in agriculture and teaching certification in the field of instruction or;
- Have satisfied one of the following requirements
- Have two creditable years of experience as a CTE Instructor while obtaining alternative certification; or
- Have work experience in a field that is directly related to the course of instruction.
- Have demonstrated proficiency in a specialized skill area as determined by the local school district; and have experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Proficient word processing and file maintenance skills
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Ability to assist and lead in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
- Minimum of one to three years teaching experience, preferably in public education environment
- Have strong CTE background
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Records, Reports, and Correspondence
- Maintain a daily teacher attendance log and records.
- Provide direct instruction to students.
- Conduct instructional exercises; work with individual students or small groups.
- Apply classroom management.
- Conduct parent involvement activities.
- Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and shop.
- Foster inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Knowledge of agricultural science and technology

- Ability to supervise agricultural field experiences

Specific Responsibilities and Duties
- Experience in training Leadership and Career Development Teams such as Forage, Forestry, Horse Judging, Skills, Quiz, etc. Some flexibility can be provided based on interest and experience.
- Credentials to certify mechanics students according to AWS requirements or ability to obtain after employment.
- Demonstrate ability to be an effective member of a multiple teacher department.
- Serve as advisor to local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state level.
Instructional Strategies
- Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), including assisting students in selecting and managing projects.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Budget and Inventory
- Develop and administer a budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
- Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
