JOB TITLE: Resident Aide
OVERVIEW: Residential Setting, Full and Part-Time Positions, Benefits Package
PRIMARY WORKSITE: Auburn, NY
Position Overview: Part of a team working with the Case Managers and otherAgency staff along with the leadership support of the Executive Director, that ensures the safety and supervision of an Emergency Homeless Shelter in accordance with our mission, philosophy, policies, and regulations. Provides services to clients/residents using trauma informed principles. Make field decisions – Read, interpret, and implement policies – independent of direct supervision. Responsible for the supervision of residents and ensures a safe, secure, comfortable, and supportive environment in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the shelter and agency.
Responsibility Overview: The Resident Aide must exhibit excellent critical thinking skills; be able to make quick and logical decisions; demonstrate maturity and professionalism; possess knowledge of agency and shelter policies – and be able to articulate and implement them.
Responsibilities:
· Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding clients and agency operations.
· Supervise residents in the program including coaching residents on program policies and rules to maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for residents and staff.
· Provide conflict resolution, crisis intervention and supportive counseling as needed.
· Maintain accurate documentation including clear and concise communication to staff, Log Book entries, and emails to outside agencies.
· Complete Incident Reports and file as required.
· Assists in the monthly Fire Drills.
· Perform room and safety checks on clients.
· Attend all required staff meetings, In-House Trainings and Required Trainings.
· Ability to work courteously with diverse populations, including those receiving / needing mental health services, substance abuse services and recently released from incarceration.
· Additional tasks assigned as deemed necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand on feet 50% or more of the scheduled shift.
- Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Ability to evacuate facility in less than 3 minutes in emergency situation.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret shelter operating procedures.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma/GED or equivalent required.
· Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification.
· Ability to defuse crisis situations both within team and independency.
· Ability to document program events and carry out scheduled or spontaneous tasks.
· Capable of applying all assigned training topics.
· Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding clients and agency operations.
Job Type: Part-time
