Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator
Job Summary
The Engagement & Communications Coordinator will manage day-to-day correspondence, community engagement initiatives, and organizational operations for the Charitable Healthcare Network (CHN). This role encompasses communications, program and event support, as well as oversight of various operational aspects of the organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Development and Events, this position requires strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to advancing CHN’s mission to support and advocate for charitable healthcare providers across Ohio.

The Charitable Healthcare Network (CHN) is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to strengthen and ensure high-quality health care for people who are vulnerable. CHN works with a network of 56 free clinics and charitable providers in Ohio to deliver essential healthcare services for free or little to no cost for those in need. In 2024, CHN’s network provided more than $223 million in healthcare services through more than 715,000 clinical interactions with the uninsured and underinsured in Ohio. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Communications
- Coordinate the distribution of organizational communications, including weekly e-newsletters, CHN website updates, mailed correspondence, email marketing campaigns, and social media content.
- Assist in the creation and design of digital and print materials for organizational events, initiatives, and branded materials for the network.
- Collaborate with the Director of Development & Events on communication campaigns, branding projects, and community outreach initiatives.
- Maintain professional and courteous communication with the public, CHN stakeholders, and partners.
- Work alongside CHN team members on special projects such as supply pickup days, educational events, Legislative Health Fair, Free Clinic Appreciation Month, Safety Net Symposium, annual reports, and other initiatives as needed.
Engagement/Operations
- Coordinate various day-to-day operational tasks for the organization, such as, but not limited to, scheduling meetings, responding to phone and email inquiries, managing office supplies, and serving as a liaison to external stakeholders.
- Support network relations by planning regional meetings, collecting network reports, and maintaining accurate records.
- Assist with the CHN grant process, including grant acquisition, reporting, and internal tracking.
- Process new network applications in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Foster engagement within the network to promote CHN’s mission and organizational goals.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Health Administration, or a closely related field of study.
- 1–3 years of experience in nonprofit administration or healthcare/health and human service industries.
- Ability to lead and contribute to professional discussions with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Google Drive, HootSuite, Canva, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms.
- Strong attention to detail with an adaptable mindset; ability to plan ahead while working efficiently under deadlines.
- Preferred experience working with free and charitable clinics or healthcare providers.
- Direct client/customer service experience—especially with vulnerable populations—is highly desirable.
- Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products and web-based software tools.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of comfort working in diverse environments that include business professionals and government representatives.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary Range: $45,000 to $55,000
- Flexible work environment with access to an office in Downtown Columbus
