POSITION: Senior Staff Accountant

COMPENSATION: $96,000 - $102,000/Year DOE

This position offers a 4% of annual salary sign-on bonus for new hires!


DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The primary purpose of this position is to perform accounting duties that are technical and complex, while exercising discretion and tact in processing documents and handling confidential and/or sensitive information. The Senior Staff Accountant is also responsible for maintaining financial records, general ledgers, analyzing budgets and performing general bookkeeping using GAAP principles including analytical work.


SUPERVISION REQUIRED: Receives directions from the Controller and may receive directions from the Assistant Controller. The Senior Staff Accountant may provide supervision to other lower-level Accounting staff as necessary.



PREREQUISITES:

  • Accounting degree or coursework or equivalent desired.
  • Yardi experience highly desired.
  • Construction accounting experience is a plus.
  • Excel proficiency essential.
  • Good communication skills and written/oral presentation capability
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; demonstrate the ability to be self-motivated and be detail oriented.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient knowledge of MS office, emphasis in excel
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient level of professional skill and or knowledge in accounting and keep current with developments and trends.
  • Payroll experience preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position, but this list is not to be deemed all-encompassing. Other duties may be required and assigned.


  • Responsible for handling month end closing and general ledger entries.
  • Prepares and reviews and analyzes income, expenses and financial statements.
  • Oversee the accounts payable process and provides final review to ensure payables coding for accuracy.
  • Perform payroll duties.
  • Assists employees, supervisors, and managers with payroll, timecard, and deductions inquiries; conducts research and resolves concerns within a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and payroll software system representatives to resolve payroll setup and system issues.
  • Processes calculate and maintains records of a variety of payroll actions, including but not limited to new hires, overtime hours, salary adjustments, retroactive pay, benefits withholdings adjustments, wage garnishments, levies, and final paycheck processing; processes stop payments and re-issue payroll checks or direct deposits.
  • Reviews payroll related reports prepared and filled by current payroll software system provider.
  • Performs Payroll related General Ledger (GL) duties, resolves GL reconciliation differences, and ensures pay codes in the payroll software system are mapped to appropriate GL accounts and that payroll transactions are recorded in the GL timely and accurately.
  • Prepares and submits semi-monthly payroll information reports to the Retirement Plan System; prepares and submits benefit contribution payment requests to Accounts Payable, and coordinates with the Accounts Payable and other Finance staff to ensure vendor payments are processed timely and accurately.
  • Process annual 1099 Misc. and sales/use tax returns.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by researching and interpreting data.
  • Prepares and maintains general ledger entries by maintaining records and reconciling accounts.
  • Interprets, explains, and applies general and accounting/auditing principles and procedures affecting the financial operations of the Agency.
  • Performs general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, accruals, amortizations, debt reconciliations and interest accruals and prepaid expenses.
  • Provides backup documentation for reserve withdrawals as needed.
  • Responsible for full-cycle accounts payable by designing and maintaining approval workflows in the Yardi system; processing vendor payments which include reviewing invoices account statements for accuracy, following up with staff from other departments for timely invoice approval and general ledger charge codes. Ensuring vendor payment methods are accurate and current.
  • Executes accurate and timely electronic book transfers and wire transfers.
  • Monitors cash positions and anticipates future cash deficiencies.
  • Assists in the preparation of supporting working papers and documentation for year-end audit process and tax filing process.
  • Performs annual workers compensation audit.
  • Provides support; develops recommendations for improving procedures and initiating quality and efficiency enhancements.
  • Supervises less senior staff as requested.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned to support specific department business needs.
