This position reports to the Director of Communications and Media Relations. The web/digital content specialist position is a highly technical role within the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Communications Department. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage, enhance, and promote a dynamic web presence for CCPS. The position also supports functions of the Communications Department in web development, design, coding, site management, content development, writing, and video production.
- Bachelor’s degree in electronic media, journalism, communications, computer science or a related field.
- At least five years of experience with website management, visual communications and video production experience.
- Portfolio of work is preferred. Samples/copies of past projects or work accepted prior to interview. Please provide URLs of websites designed and maintained, as well as videos shot, edited and produced (if available).
- Knowledge of Finalsite website platform strongly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of graphic design and desktop publishing, website design and development, and various web enabling computer languages including HTML, JavaScript, FTP and the general workings of the web and web servers.
- Strong computer and web-based skills including familiarity with Canva, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign and other Adobe Creative Cloud programs, and other web-related technologies.
- Knowledge of video editing programs such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or Davinci Resolve preferred.
- Knowledge of 3D graphic programs such as Adobe After Effects or Apple Motion preferred.
- Ability to detect, analyze and solve technical problems.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer relation skills to ensure functionality of the website(s) is met for all stakeholders.
- Demonstrated skills in website management, content creation, writing for the web and editing.
- Experience in working on platforms with a viewing/access audience of more than 100,000 consumers.
- Availability to work evenings or weekends, as needed.
Creates a comprehensive website strategy which promotes the school system’s goals and messages, increases visibility and delivers district information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state and district policies, regulations and standards.
- Plans, develops, designs, tests, edits, maintains and controls content, look and flow of the Charles County Public Schools website, ccboe.com, and school websites.
- Ensures website content is accessible to people with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Performs routine ADA compliance checks on main website, www.ccboe.com, and school/center websites.
- Provides training and support to staff members responsible for website maintenance.
- Serves as website point-of-contact for school public relations liaison program.
- Works with contracted web host and the CCPS technology department regarding technical aspects of the website.
- Works with network personnel on issues of hardware/software that affect website.
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding district matters.
- Assists with video productions including tapings, studio broadcasts and live streaming of events.
- Attends department meetings and school system events as directed by the Director of Communications and Media Relations.
- Supports the goals and objectives of the district and follows CCPS policies.
- Is adaptable and flexible in acceptance of change in techniques and procedures.
- Keeps abreast of current emerging technologies and professional trends related to websites and other electronic communications.
- Must be able to work under stress, schedule daily activities and establish short and long-term priorities to meet established deadlines and work independently.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
