Position Description
Monitors student movement in and around campus especially in the hallways in between class periods and during class transitions. Provides supervision of students in order to reduce tardiness, absenteeism, truancy and assist in maintaining general order. Hall monitors interact in a positive and proactive manner with students of widely varying demographics and socio-economic backgrounds. The position requires individuals who can perform their duties in a patient,
understanding, caring, calm, tactful, respectful, and professional manner while commanding respect and maintaining a sense of order .
Performance Responsibilities
- Monitors student movement in school halls, stairwells, restrooms, courtyards, entrances, parking lots and other parts of school buildings and grounds to minimize tardiness, absenteeism, and truancy in compliance with school rules.
- Reports periodically to Dean/s and Principals on issues, incidents and conditions affecting student security, either orally or in writing;
- Liaisons with school Attendance Specialist as needed.
- Prevents students from using unauthorized exits/entrances into buildings.
- Provides effective supervision of students in and around school buildings using specific techniques that encourage responsible and appropriate behavior designed to reduce safety and security incidents.
- Provides effective re-direction of students & student behavior to increase/maintain class attendance.
- Escorts students as necessary to their classrooms or the administrative office when they arrive late or are found out of class.
- Assists teachers in removing students that are disrupting classroom activities and assists in escorting such students to the administrative office so corrective action can be taken by administrators.
- Maintains communication via portable radios with the administrative office, SROs, and other hall monitors.
- Monitors and inspects restrooms to prevent students from loitering, damaging facilities or engaging in inappropriate activities.
- Reports vandalism and any damage to building property to administrators and places work orders for remedy.
- Monitors departing students ensuring they check out at the front desk as required.
- Monitors the arrival and departure of school buses to help students arrive and depart in the designated area safely.
- Monitors the cafeteria and patio during breakfast and lunch confiscating any food arriving via meal delivery services.
- Takes pro-active, appropriate action to defuse student behavior in order to reduce/prevent conflict and/or help prevent confrontations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
Work Experience
- Some experience working in a K-12 school setting required.
Certifications
- Must be able to obtain a Clearance certificate by passing a background check.
