Position Description
Classroom teachers are expected to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The Media Arts Teacher will provide instruction, guidance, and support to students in developing their skills and knowledge in the film/digital media industry. This includes teaching various aspects of media arts, such as film making (producing and editing), graphic design, digital storytelling, memes, and marketing strategies. This position reports to the Director of Fine Arts and STEAM with a dotted line to the respective academy principals.

Performance Responsibilities
- Teach knowledge and skills in Media Arts and affiliated careers using state standards.
- Provide instruction that lets students see how to organize and develop artistic ideas and work using various media.
- Teach ways of generating and conceptualizing artistic ideas and work (storyboarding, diagrams, journaling, and sketches).
- Share the ways professionals in the industry and allow students the opportunity to refine and complete artistic work..
- Instruct students in the methods to elect, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation.
- Plan and execute a film/ animation festival in conjunction with the vertical team of Media Arts teachers.
- Encourage students to use media to convey meaning.
- Help students relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding.
- Assist students in exploring the ways to synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art (animations, films, music, print content, digital books and marketing campaigns).
- Partner with outside organizations to provide resources, opportunities, and equipment to build the Media Arts program.
- Facilitate teams or individuals competition in the district Tech Fair, Beta Conference Competitions, and in Career Technical Service Organization (CTSO) competitions in Media Arts categories.
- Prepare storage areas for equipment and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
- Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge related to the Media Arts curriculum and standards.
- Select and requisition instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records of equipment
- Plan and carry out in-field experiences or field trips to see the industry of gaming.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
- Participate in leadership activities by sharing and showcasing the importance of gamification of learning via in house PD.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
- Collaborate with other teachers to promote interdisciplinary education
- Use and promote design thinking skills, STEAM Journals, and Portfolios where appropriate
- Foster constructive dialogue through facilitating discussions and presentations for projects
- Establish a well-managed, safe, and orderly environment that is conducive to learning and encourages respect for all
- Teach specific grade level subject matter to a diverse middle and high school student population, following the Georgia Standards of Excellence using a Project-Based Learning approach
- Employ a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment strategies and instruments that are valid and appropriate for the content and student population.
- Systematically gather, analyze, and use relevant data to measure student progress, to inform instructional content and delivery methods, and to provide timely and constructive feedback to both students & parents.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents or guardians, school personnel, and other stakeholders in ways that enhance student learning
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Experience with instruction in animation, broadcast, film, graphic design/illustration, photography, and/or web design
Work Experience
- Zero (0) years of teaching experience
Certifications
- Minimum of T4-Certification in Art (P-12), Computer Science (P-12); OR
- Passed or have the ability to take and pass the appropriate GACE Assessment; OR
- Have reciprocity eligibility.
Compensation
