What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rec Aide position at Charles River Center?
The duties of this position include caring for children during the Charles River Centers Kids Break, ASPIRE, SPArc, and School Vacation programs and other and future Family Support programs. Requirements include participating in community-based experiences with Charles River Centers population. Direct Care, behavior management, implementation of program based behavioral interventions, development of: social skills, communication, personal skill development, physical development if applicable, and activities of daily living may also apply. Lifting or assisting physically disabled children weighing from 40 to 100 pounds may be required as needed.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Direct care and supervision of children with special needs and children without special needs, ages 3 - 21, during the integrated Kids Break, ASPIRE, SPArc, and/or School Vacation programs. Direct Care may include, but not be limited to: toileting, changing of diapers and clothing, washing individuals, and helping with feeding of meals (i.e., lunch and snacks).
Act as a role model to participants and volunteers by displaying appropriate dress, language, and character skills.
Work with individuals on behavior management, personal development, social skills, communication, physical development & activities of daily living as applicable.
Integrate children or adults into the community & participate with individuals during community-based activities.
Notify the Coordinator, the Assistant Director or the Director of Family Support of any problems, conflicts, mishaps or needs while working within the program. Complete Incident Reports as needed.
Work as a team with Coordinator and/or any other Recreation Aides.
Make volunteers feel welcome, needed, useful and appreciated.
Create opportunities for various activities including games, sports, arts & crafts, swimming, exercise, sports, music, etc. as appropriate.
Establish consistent relationships with children so they feel secure, safe and welcome.
Create experiences & activities that include both children with special needs and children without special needs.
Establish a working relationship with the family so they feel supported and secure when leaving their children at the childrens program.
Communicate with families regarding their expectations in working with their children.
Adhere to families requests about childrens diet, interventions, medications, & accepted activities.
Clean up after activities as needed so that the home or facility is left as it was upon arriving. Treat the familys possessions or supplies appropriately.
Meet periodically for team meetings as scheduled.
Perform other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or currently attending high school. Experience working with the special needs population preferred, but not required. Must have interest in working with children or adults with special needs. CPR and First Aid certified.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrate an appreciation of the personal worth and dignity of people with disabilities. Childrens Programs Recreation Aides may be required to attend job appropriate trainings at Charles River Center in Needham. Basic computer knowledge.
