Job Summary
We are seeking a Controls Technician for our Safety Assessment site located in Reno, Nevada.
Perform a variety of controls-related duties that support the start-up and commissioning of new PLC-based systems, maintenance of the Building Automation System, programming of various PLC’s and control systems, and ongoing equipment and system installations. This individual will work closely with Engineering, Facilities, and other groups to enhance plant efficiency through control sequences, integrate laboratory and facility equipment with site control systems, and participate in the qualification and validation of control-based systems and equipment.

Job Summary

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Generate and review reports for the Building Automation System (BAS) in order to maintain proper system health, ensure data capture, and maintain GLP compliance.
- Work with Engineering and Facilities personnel to implement control sequences for the Building Automation System that improve plant efficiency as well as maintain current operations.
- Program various PLC platforms for systems that include mechanical equipment, waste management, cold storage, etc. that are not controlled by the Building Automation System.
- Install, setup and commission various third-party integration devices connected through Siemens P2, BACNET, and other communication protocols.
- Install, setup and commission Siemens controllers as required to support site growth, expansion, maintenance and upgrades.
- Communicate and work cross-functionally with various departments regarding the implementation and maintenance of automated equipment, systems and controllers.
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues with laboratory hoods, down-draft tables and other life-safety laboratory equipment through routine maintenance and monitoring on the Building Automation System.
- Investigate and verify proper balance of laboratory equipment as well as the air balance throughout laboratory and vivarium spaces.
- Work cross-functionally with Charles River Information Technology teams to support the operations and maintenance of the Building Automations System and other network systems as required.
- Provide remote support as needed to troubleshoot and maintain the Building Automation System and other control systems.
- Interface with vendors relating to control systems, automation, and facilities/laboratory equipment.
- Participate in on-call duties as assigned.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.). Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology related field is preferred.
- Experience: 2 years working with and programming automated equipment including VFDs and other programmable controllers of the following preferred platforms: Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE
- Certification/Licensure: Siemens Building Automation System certifications regarding programming and operation highly preferred.
- Other: Ability to work in areas accessible only by ladder. Basic knowledge of GLP regulations preferred. Desired experience in repair, troubleshooting and calibration of various pieces of laboratory, medical, and mechanical equipment including but not limited to the following: Bio-safety cabinets, down-draft tables, VAV boxes, fume hoods.
- Experience in programming one or more of the automation platforms. These may include: Siemens (preferred), JCI, Tridium, Honeywell, Allerton, Automated Logic Controls
