In return, we'll help you build a career that you can feel passionate about.Job SummaryWe are seeking a Medical Technologist Associate to work in the Bacteriology Department at our Wilmington, MA location.This individual is responsible for the effective processing and reporting of both internal and external samples for microbiological identification. They are expected to train microbiology staff as directed as well as maintain controlled documents to describe procedures.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Proficient in processing rodent, simian and environmental samplesReconcile customer paperwork with submission documentation to ensure accuracyOperate, maintain and perform troubleshooting procedures on microbiology analyzers and equipmentBe proficient in the use and maintenance on all microbiological equipment in laboratoryPrepare and label media, and supplies to support laboratory work and sample processingProficient in proper media incubation location and timeObtain bacterial identification using MALDI-TOF, VITEK2 and biochemical tests as neededPerform antimicrobial susceptibility testingDocument results to include creating orders and results data entry into results database in a timely fashionCommunicate results, and clearly describe processes to internal and external clientsTroubleshoot laboratory problems as tasked by management or Scientific StaffCollect and / or process samples according to departmental SOPsMaintain proper handling and inoculation techniques for mediaWork in a structured and regulated environmentWork productively in group situations as well as independentlyReport all departmental exceptions to the manager or designee as instructedProvide leadership during training and motivation to all departmental personnelShare responsibility for departmental housekeeping and adherence to established safety proceduresMaintain proficiency in all related department SOPs, policies, protocols and general knowledge of related laboratory processesReview and edit departmental SOPs and formsTrain all new hires on departmental needs and expectationsOrganize and train Laboratory Technicians I and IIMaintain up to date training records on all procedures and protocols applicable to work dutiesPerform and document internal qualification of new techniques and procedures under the guidance of management or Scientific StaffAdhere to all departmental SOPs, policies, safety procedures and protocolsRemain organized in a fast-paced environmentPerform all other related duties as requiredMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or equivalent in biological sciences or related disciplineA minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment (using WASP / MALDI-TOF, VITEK2)An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.Strong organization and prioritization skillsAn attention to detail and accuracyEffective verbal and written communication skillsMust have the ability to communicate effectively in a small group or one-on-one settingProficient in Computers (IE Basic skills in MS Office Suite)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : MT or MLT with certification or certification-eligible (ASCP or HEW)6 months or more of training experienceLeadership skillsThe hourly pay range for this position is $26.00 - $33.00.
