Model Risk Oversight (MRO) is a strategic function within the broader Corporate Risk Management umbrella that manages all quantitative and predictive modeling products, including artificial intelligence, to protect our clients and our company.
The governance team within MRO plays a key role in establishing the AI risk program- creating policies and procedures, establishing reporting, ensuring our program is compliant with regulatory expectations, and meets industry standard. This role provides an opportunity to drive program requirements and build key relationships with AI stakeholders at the Company in the early stages of establishing AI risk at Schwab.
Brief Description of the Role
We are looking for an individual contributor to help build out and establish AI risk at Schwab in alignment with other corporate risk management programs. This role will report to the Director of Model Risk Governance and be responsible for:
- Creating the development, implementation, and testing of AI solutions across the entire AI lifecycle, including performance and monitoring of AI solutions.
- Maintaining and socializing an AI risk standard.
- Collaborating with stakeholders across Schwab to holistically mitigate the risk of using AI at the Company.
- Reporting and communicating the status of AI risk at the Company to various levels of senior leadership and committees.
- Creating monitoring programs for different AI techniques.
- Performing AI assessments to identify areas for improvement.
- Remediating and executing on areas for improvement, including rolling out and communicating these changes.
- Organizing and providing training on AI program requirements.
- Designing AI validation scope and model performance monitoring requirements.
What you have
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience with modeling, data science, or AI techniques.
- Understanding of risk management or governance frameworks.
- Desire to leverage AI knowledge to build out AI risk program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or related certifications.
- Familiarity with NIST AI 100-1, FHFA AB 2022-02, or other AI governance frameworks.
- Familiarity with policies, standards, procedures, and risk frameworks.
- Experience in the banking industry and understanding of AI techniques and concepts.
- Experience in development and implementation of various AI, machine learning, or other model methodologies (including, but not limited to GenAI, multi-modal LLM models, XGBoost, etc.)
- Experience with model validation concepts and SR 11-7.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and gain buy-in.
